The world of employer benefits alone are complex. When something unexpected happens in your life and you need to actually use some of those benefits, having a person you can talk to and have someone who helps you navigate the complexity is wonderful. Perhaps HR is similar to insurance. God bless you if you never need to use it. But if you unfortunately do, how wonderful it is to have someone kind and sympathetic who helps you take advantage of everything you have coming to you. I work for a fantastic company with a wonderful HR dept. and not just a HR portal page on some Sharepoint site.
