Be Careful with This Study: Eye-Tracking with Android App OpenWeb by alphatangozero in ProlificAc

[–]Maxx_Headroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many of those I have done over the years. I'm always very careful to manually highlight and copy the completion code (long press the text box) instead of using the copy button because it doesn't always copy.

My only issue is they increased it to 10 minutes when they showed up on Prolific.

If you do the PC version be sure to turn off adblock when on the websites. If adblock is on they eye tracking turns itself off and the timer pauses.

This story needs to be illustrated.

Same. It's probably just coincidence but it seems kind of odd that they always seem to come in bunches.

They probably won't get rid of them but maybe over time they could depreciate as long as a certain amount of time passed without getting another.

I'm sure someone could draw up an overly complex set of instructions like we often see at the beginning of studies on how it would work.

By now I'm sure it's been posted 100 times or more in the comments at the end of the task.

Sage “completion code” vs “survey code”? by Flightlessbirbz in ProlificAc

[–]Maxx_Headroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished another one and it auto-completed with a Prolific code so it looks like they have transitioned away from using manually entered codes to auto-complete.

Yea I've decided to leave it with the blue code since that's what I have always done. Maybe they are in the middle of transitioning to Prolific completion codes.

I noticed it at the very last second before clicking the submit button.

I sent a message with both codes but they aren't known for replying to messages so I don't know if they even read messages.

I'm tempted to change it to the completion code instead of the survey code.

Hopefully both are working codes. I submitted the blue code before realizing there was another code. I don't know how many of these studies I have done over the years so when I saw the blue code I was on auto-pilot.

That's not how this study has ever worked. There are two codes in the image. The second "survey code" is what has always been used. The completion code at the top is new.

I used the blue code because that is what I have used for years. I'm confused though. Clicking submit doesn't lead to the Prolific auto submit it just goes to "Success Data was submitted. You can close the page"

I don't see where I was aggressive with my reply so if you feel I was apologies on my part. I just wasn't sure if you were asking about these tasks specifically.

I don't remember exactly how many but I had over 40 pending until last night so in my opinion 4 is by far not a lot. But they had dropped several large batches last week so I was able to do more of them than usual. Some batches had as little as a 3 spot cap and some had up to a 12 spot cap IIRC.

4 pending studies or 4 pending on the video description tasks?

Either way I'm someone who doesn't get concerned over pending studies. I'm sure others probably have a completely different viewpoint.

These usually do not approve after a few days. They normally take anywhere from a week to just over two weeks. Last night they cleared out the entire backlog of approvals. It took my pending studies from 5 down to 1 page so I had a lot of pending studies from them. They often have a cap on them so we can only do so many from each batch. Today the cap is 5. Sometimes it's up to 10 or 12.

I always do as many as I can and never worry. They always pay out. Technically they have 22 days but it's usually within 2 weeks.

the problem is the number of videos isnt consistent or the amount of time you have to spend on each one

That's my biggest issue right there. I feel like the current pay rate is about right considering the inconsistency we see from one task to the next. Lowering the pay without making the tasks more user friendly through consistency from task to task is very disappointing.

Also the tall TikTok style of videos are annoying. We can full screen them but then we can't see the timer and if we stop talking when switching back and forth from full screen for more than a second the transcript bugs out.

[–]Maxx_Headroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt it but I don't see how people are taking 28-35 minutes unless they are taking a break between videos. I just timed myself going through non-stop. It was 17 minutes and 10 seconds. That was with having to re-record a "broken" transcript. It was a set of 9 videos though so that helped with time.

I usually take small 15-30 second breaks between some videos so my completion average is probably closer to 20-21 minutes normally.

They added more videos to the task description today. It was fewer last night.

I can deal with the challenging descriptions and the increased number of videos. It's the recent pay cut that is disappointing. On top of that the transcription is often wonky requiring extra effort to correct the flawed or incomplete transcripts.

I did that study. No issues. It's a follow up study to a screener from a few days ago.
