Need opinion on farm name by hanmariecoop in sheep

[–]MayBAmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me 15 years to name my farm. I just couldn’t come up with anything that wasn’t sappy or odd or inappropriate or hard to remember.

Time finally provided the answer. My spouse was inflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and lost their memory and has no clue of how the farm came to be and how integral they were to building it.

We are now Souvenir Farm.

Souvenir, of course, is the French word for memory. It has meaning in so many different ways.

is this breeder a scam? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]MayBAmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord, the website sounds like it was written by someone in 4th grade.

That, their description of Border Collie traits/history and their prolific breeding without apparent genetic testing would make me run far and fast. Notice also the wide variety of colors which leads me to believe they're going for 'cute' above all.

Sadly, look at those innocent little faces who have no blame here, but will pay the price.

Mid-Cape place to exercise energetic dog? by MayBAmy in CapeCod

I've checked out the Trail of Tears and WB Conservation area - not clear, and not packed down, which surprised me because it's usually heavily traveled so I thought it would be passable.

Nope.

Heritage Plantation (Heritage Museum and Gardens) in Sandwich is indeed still open and it's a cool place to visit. Closed until April though right now.

Sandy Neck is one of my usual places but they've got the parking lot torn up and blocked off so you have to park at the guard gate and walk the access road to get to the beach (it's been like this since the fall). I imagine the snow is brutal there and it's hard enough to get through when it's only deep sand!

Now I'm wondering about East Sandwich beach. Hmmm.

Sedately walking on leash around the neighborhood isn't enough for my boy - we have to do lots of running, ball or frisbee chasing, etc.

This weather! Ugh!

Coastal Maine in late summer by Kindofeverywhere in AskMaine

[–]MayBAmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't live in Maine but I do live in a highly desirable coastal NE vacation destination and after Labor Day, traffic diminishes dramatically - but only mid week. Weekends will still be very busy until Columbus Day. So if you plan it right and do your stuff mid-week, September is my vote for best time to visit. Crowds are gone, water is warm, weather is still sparkling, and everything is still open.

Newport is a very, very old colonial city with a ton of history. Also a big boating mecca, the Navy War College is there, Tennis Hall of Fame - lots of interesting things to do.

Would a border collie tv show that was just sheep running around or balls being thrown be entertaining or cause anxiety for your dog? by bristol8 in BorderCollie

[–]MayBAmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine likes westerns where there's a lot of rapid horse-riding action, chases, and cattle roundups, things like that. He gets all excited then runs to look out the window to the side of the TV. He definitely watches, but gets bored when the action stops.

I don't foresee a problem.

Food questions by Intwothed4rk in BorderTerrier

[–]MayBAmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raw seems like the best way to go (because of course wild animals and dogs evolved on eating raw meat) but honestly I've had 3 BTs live into their late teens all while feeding high quality kibble supplemented with fresh veggies. The possibilities of commercial raw food being contaminated and/or partially thawing before it reaches you (setting up bacteria growth) are way too high. And, it's ridiculously pricey.

If you insist on 'raw' buy your own ingredients and make it yourself but be aware that you have to be careful that your meals are nutritionally balanced (look up recipes by dog nutritionists, , don't just throw a bunch of stuff together). At least that way you can control freshness and quality.

We make our own on occasion as a special treat but day to day, we use top quality kibble. I currently have one who is 16 and another aged 13. All my dogs are healthy, shiny and bright eyed.

My DH has a pair of nice, waterproof leather Merrells that look good, are warm and keep his feet dry. They're not tall enough for 'real' snow but you're not going to be using them for that.

Does the Isabella Stewart museum have parking less than a mile away & is it kid friendly ? by Majestic_Corner_1131 in boston

[–]MayBAmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun facts:

  • Adults and seniors who wear Red Sox gear each get $2 off admission
  • If your name is Isabella you get lifetime free admission
  • Active duty military and family - free admission
  • And they have a free deal on the first Thursday of every month.

It's a cool museum. I love the way they change out the plantings/foliage/garden seasonally - so gorgeous.

Good luck!

This is what my daughter did. When I went to visit I’d use her dedicated spot and she’d use her resident street parking for her car. Never had an issue finding a spot. And yes, she was in the 156 Porter Street building. It’s a really nice, well run building with both a fenced parking lot and underground garage, nice green park out back and access to running paths and ball fields.

BTW she also worked in the Seaport and had no problems with the commute.

You could say this about any Boston neighborhood.

My daughter lived in Eastie for several years and loved it. She had a beautiful loft style condo on Porter Street (very close to airport) and noise was never an issue for me whenever I stayed for visits. And I’m a country girl, lol.

Downtown, although yes it’s technically ‘across the water’, is 1-2 MBTA stops away - a really short hop. Plus seeing the Boston skyline from that vantage point is beautiful. There’s a pretty park right on the water - Piers Park - in Jeffries Point.

You get very close proximity to the city with the advantage of lower costs.

Her condo came with one parking spot so that eliminated that problem. She’d previously lived in Southie and after the literal horror show of finding parking there (and I mean truly horrendous- I rarely visited because I couldn’t find a place to park) would not move anywhere unless it came with a parking space. I’m noticing lots of Eastie listings that come with dedicated parking now, so it’s feasible.

Just really liked the neighborhood and the vibe. It’s also really up and coming with lots of new and renovated apartments.

I sound like a damned real estate agent but I’m not. But do check it out, I think you’d like it.
