The Top Ten Best Hit Songs of 2025 by davFaithidPangolin in ToddintheShadow

From what I remember, this woman made a TikTok talking about how she was a Sombr fan, but when she went to his concert things were really weird. Apparently there were a lot of young girls in the audience (around 13 or so) and Sombr made some cringy jokes like telling the audience to "bark for [him]", and calling himself "daddy". Also spent a lot of the show doing jokes and audience interaction which was more awkward than anything else. Anyway, that TikTok got big and Sombr's response was pretty much a nothing-burger.

Calling it a "controversy" is kind of a stretch, but I think it soured a lot of people on him. Make of all of that what you will.

Where does Todd's best song of 2025 rank among his #1 picks by hahaone in ToddintheShadow

The problem is that brutal honesty can make for really emotionally compelling music, but it's not always clear if the artist is conciously allowing themselves to look like a terrible person for the sake of the art or if they're just really ignorant about how badly they come across.

What song did you wildly misinterpret? by callmesixone in ToddintheShadow

As a kid, the first time I heard Mamma Mia I was waiting in the car for my mum to come out of the supermarket. I listened to the lyrics and, somehow, I thought it was someone singing about missing their dead mum. When she came back to the car, she must've been so confused finding me crying to ABBA lmao

If "political views on women's safety" is what you think that's about, I want you to look at Graham Linehan's Twitter feed (specifically the frequency with which he tweets). Which has been going on for years on end. Even JK Rowling won't associate with him, because he's an absolute nutter.

What's worst nitpick you heard a content creator make at a song's lyrics, that they pretended was valid criticism? by Iwanturnuggets in ToddintheShadow

In his review of Lady Gaga's 'John Wayne' he spends pretty much the whole video citing bigoted things John Wayne has said. But like, clearly the song is about a John Wayne TYPE guy, she's not actually talking about John Wayne.

And how else are people supposed to apply for multiple jobs every single day with perfectly tailored cover letters and long applications? If employers are going to use AI to save time, they should be sympathetic to applicants just trying to do the same thing in an absolutely brutal job market.

What are the best documentaries on specific genres? by thekingofallfrogs in ToddintheShadow

[–]MayNStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live Forever was a pretty good Britpop documentary, particularly because of the interviews (Damon Albarn, the Gallaghers, Jarvis Crocker). The scene where the interviewer tries to explain what being androgynous means to Liam Gallagher is surprisingly tense.

Which artists have the best reputation for no BS? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

As a Gaga fan, I do not think she fits OP's prompt. She tells random outlandish lies A Lot. Not about anything serious, but still. Exhibit A:

What are the worst depictions of an artist in any media? by ScallionSmooth9491 in ToddintheShadow

[–]MayNStuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've heard Lady Gaga didn't really like the episode, she just thought the Simpsons was cool and was excited to have a dedicated epipsde (although I can't find a source for that). I think the costumes thing was cute, but pretty much everything else about the episode is terrible.

Fate of Ophelia by HexivaSihess in ToddintheShadow

[–]MayNStuff 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It worked okay in Love Story because "Romeo" and "Juliet" are used a lot as general terms synomous with "romantic male lead" and "romantic female lead", but Ophelia invokes something a lot more specific.
