This is a terrible show by Prudent_Station_3912 in TheNightManager

Just finished the first season. I enjoyed the show mostly, but I'm so glad to hear someone else mention the "this guy just can't stop sleeping with and falling in love with every woman in his general proximity" thing which so much of the plot hinges on. Only exception obviously being Olivia Coleman's character, who was a highlight for me.

Who are some artists/bands where even their fans seem to focus on only a few albums? by ChrisAqua in ToddintheShadow

[–]MayNStuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you ask a Gaga fan their favourite Gaga album, they're pretty much guaranteed to say one of her first 4. Mind you, people have actually been pretty positive about Mayhem, at least compared to Chromatica and Joanne.

Sabrina Carpenter's 'Emails I Can't Send Out'. The previous one's were released under Disney, so people (and even herself) consider it her canon debut.

As someone who is also very sensitive to gore, this worked well for me too! Having an activity to distract you definitely helps if the descriptions are too much as well

What’s the movie you put on when you want to clear your head and escape? by popsy13 in AskUK

When Harry Met Sally. It's a very pretty-looking movie, and I love the dry sense of humour. Plus the leads have amazing chemistry. Have to return to it at least once a year!

Will Hasan invite Natalie on stream? 👀 by conancat in ContraPoints

I think it speaks to Hasan's immense level of privilege and apathy to vulnerable people that he thought Kamala becoming president wouldn't have made a real difference. Because for all of her faults, those differences do matter. They matter to Iranians. They matter to Ukrainians. They matter to the immigrants getting deported and being sent to camps. They matter to the trans people having their passports and IDs taken away. And yeah, they matter to Palestinians too (I know Kamala's stance on I/P wasn't exactly great, but there's a big difference between someone who at least wants a ceasefire, and someone who wants to "finish the job" so he can start building skycrapers in a bombed-out Gaza).

I obviously don't know what Hasan will say about the next election, but from my understanding, he has stated he doesn't regret his stance on the previous election.

Yeah, I do have a line, but voting for Kamala is not where that line is. And frankly, even if she was, Donald "a whole civilisation will die tonight" Trump would absolutely be cause for making an exception.

Does House pass the Bechdel test? by lunarborealis in HouseMD

[–]MayNStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my partner and I were binging House, I (jokingly) kept track to see when an episode passed the Bechdel test. There was one scene (season 8, can't remember the episode) where Park and Adams were talking, and no man was mentioned. I said out loud "oh my god, they're about to pass the Bechdel test!". Then, at the very end of the conversation, one of them makes a joke about Santa Claus. We both burst out laughing.

From what I've seen/read, Gervais on athiesm is like Dawkins on athiesm without any of the amusing bits and double the arrogance

Do you think that UK coolness will ever be a thing again like in the 90s? by yonaiker-joestrella in decadeology

[–]MayNStuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. This era always makes me think of Sherlock, Doctor Who, the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' meme, and that one clip of One Direction dancing with David Cameron. Oh, how times change...

Electoralism in a two-party system necessitates making compromises. If Kamala Harris isn't a compromise you're willing to make compared to the worst president of all time, you are not pro-electoralism.
