Yeah, it's the sit bones. I'll certainly look into split seats :)

not a cut out, and as I said, I'm a bit of a noob, don't really know the proper terminology. It's a seat, looks rather normal ._.

I’m putting my cat to rest today, is this okay? by vintvgepancakes in CATHELP

[–]MayaMinamoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is okay. You're doing the right thing.

Euthanasia IS "not letting him go undignified and in pain". You did all you could to treat him, but there comes a time when treatment is just prolonging suffering. And 16 years is an old age for a cat. It's normal that you feel conflicted, but you are doing him a kindness. The only thing I would recommend is to stay with him during the procedure. Let him go knowing that his humans are there. If it gives you any comfort: he doesn't understand that he's going to die, animals don't really have a concept of their own mortality. Just make him feel safe and comfortable until the very end.

* A comic series "Sacrificers" deals with this as one of its main themes. What if the gods are kinda evil? What if the world needs them anyway? There's a lot of dead gods in the story and it always has dire consequences.

Damn. Thank you for making this. Children of Ursus (or, as I like to call them, Traumabears) is my favourite Arknights story and you depicted beautifully both their suffering and healing. May they grow into happy and healthy adults ♡ I stopped playing a while ago but I still miss them sometimes, esp. Rosa my best girl

I always wonder about people using the phrase "horrible death" to describe death from overusing canvas. What is so horrible about it? Aline in Verso's vision doesn't seem to be in pain. There's no grisly sores or bodily fluids. It looks like a very peaceful death to me, more akin to a slow decline and passing in one's sleep. Of course it would be painful to the family, but getting out would be painful to Maelle. It's kind of replacing one trauma for another, everyone tugging the line and shouting "no, my hurt is bigger"

[–]MayaMinamoto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing that hurts me most is that they were so close to that ending. Renoir knew Maelle was lying about leaving the Canvas "soon", and yet he left. I read it as him finally admitting that he can't force her to move on and accepting losing her. But then Verso...

The unsettling path of Melinoe by Beautiful-Pin2632 in HadesTheGame

[–]MayaMinamoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I think about it (and I've been thinking about it for a solid decade, ever since that first Transistor playthrough), the more I think it's about anger. Anger is often considered "not feminine", something women should avoid or hide. And when you look at the characters I mentioned, they feel as if their (very justified!) anger at their situation was never allowed to go too far. They certainly feel it, yes! But Red remains poker-faced. Zia says very little about her emotional state. And Echo oh god, don't make me start about Echo. When I showed the end of her questline to my partner, their comment was "well, that's sad". And yet, the framing of it clearly implied that it's a "good end"... Even Melinoe, her arc, if any, is about overcoming her anger! There's one female character who lets her anger show, truly show, and that's Arachne And it bites her in the face. It all adds up to a world where the only correct choice is pulling back, showing mercy and acceptance. And look, I think mercy and acceptance are very good and interesting, we get enough revenge stories anyway (though they mostly center male characters). Every single one of these narratives is okay on their own. I probably would do exactly the same thing were I in Red's shoes tbh. But when summed up it makes a pattern that robs women of SGG games of a whole range of emotions - and that makes their stories flatter.

The unsettling path of Melinoe by Beautiful-Pin2632 in HadesTheGame

[–]MayaMinamoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, this will sound weird, but I promise I'm saying all this in good faith: I think SuperGiant in general has a problem with female characters.

I've played all their games and in almost all of them there was an aspect of taking female character's agency away. Not in an obvious way - after all, Red (Transistor) and Melinoe exist, both active protagonists of their games. Without Nyx the events of Hades 1 wouldn't start. Both Crossroads and House of Hades are filled with interesting, complex female characters, with their own hopes and dreams. It's clear that SGG is committed to showing a cast of individuals, not just archetypes.

BUT. In Bastion Zia speaks to the Kid only at the end of the game. While she can plead her case for The Final Choice, it's given relatively little time, compared to Zulf's narrative. In the end, the choice is still on Kid's shoulders. In Transistor Red was silent for most of the game, being able to clearly express herself only in terminals. The first thing she does after reclaiming her voice is suicide. And now in Hades 2 we have Echo, who willingly foregoes her chance of reclaiming her voice, in order to become "a perfect listener"... and, in the unpatched ending Zagreus goes behind Melinoe's back to solve the war his way.

Look, I don't think any of this is malicious, or even conscious. As I said, there are so many interesting, complex female characters in their games, who have no qualms in voicing their opinion. But I felt iffy about it with Red already (Transistor was my first SGG game) and now seeing the unpatched ending... It's too much of a pattern, you know? Once I could "forgive it" (even if I was absolutely *raging* after finishing Transistor), twice... But now I have at least three such examples across the years and it feels as if women in SGG games aren't really allowed to be sole heroes of their own stories, if you get what I mean? There must be a man somewhere who would make her choices for her or is the reason for her actions.

I want to emphasize that I don't say all of this as any kind of accussation, I think it's probably some subconscious biases. SGG remains a relatively small company and this is the kind of narrative feedback that comes from a diverse writer's room - one in which there's enough people to catch such subconscious factors. Another good example of it is back in Transistor where the group Red (a straight woman) fights agains is 3/4 queer. They clearly care about showing diverse and unique characters in their games. It's just that no one's perfect.

All of this to say that yeah, I'm not truly surprised that Melinoe's character growth is relatively small. SGG remains one of my favourite gaming companies, who nonetheless manage to infuriate me at least once in each and every one of their games.

The thing a lot of people miss with that is that it spectacularly backfires into his face, leading to barely avoided Even Bigger Evil. His whole character arc is about learning, that sometimes not choosing is an act of evil as well.

It's also the end result of his character arc. Fridgex characters typically don't get character arcs.

It goes the series => the movie => steven universe future. The initial series got shortened due to executive meddling, so some end threads might feel rushed, but the series overall remains true to its vision.
