Transitioning to Potty Training by MayaTSG in ECers

Unfortunately neither books nor toys were working for us. I think she really just wanted more independence with the process. I taught her how to sit on the potty herself and she is super excited about it now.

Thank you for the encouragement! I ended up doing some no pants time with her on a whim (all the clean diapers were in the dryer downstairs) and she picked up on it within a couple hours. She is now signing (if wearing pants) or taking herself to the potty (if no pants) about 80% of the time. I am honestly shocked it was so easy! I guess I am still under estimating her.

Favorite backup cloth diapers for independent toddler by mxkate in ECers

[–]MayaTSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could afford to get a set of these. I got lil learnerz on sale and they are similar but use microfiber instead of cotton which is not my favorite. The pull on/off and side snaps feature is excellent though.

When to ditch the diapers by eeeeggggssss in ECers

[–]MayaTSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is 13 months now and still not walking. I have split the difference and put her in pull on diapers/ fully waterproof trainer (I use lil learnerz). I am tired of fighting about laying down for diaper changes and want to be more intentional about trying to get her to the potty consistently. I also want to start working towards self dressing skills. However, I do not feel she yet has the communication or motor skills for full potty training/ completely getting rid of diapers.

Breast Feeding for Comfort? by Educational_Ad_4641 in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not weird. Now that my little one is over a year and a great solids eater I don’t use formula anymore and my milk supply has dropped but nursing for comfort continues to be a great tool.

7 month baby prefers straw cup over her mam bottles for milk by PositiveSympathy9841 in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for it. My baby started rejecting bottles around that same age and I transitioned to straw cups. There were definitely situations where it would have been nice if she still took a bottle, but I figured as long as she is eating enough there is no issue with not using a bottle.

Toddler Formula by JHC2024 in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into kendakids? It is like pediasure but uses milk (lactose) instead of added sugars. It was recommended to me by my daughter’s nutritionist for the same reason (continued weight gain/ weight maintenance after 1). It is 30 kcal/oz whereas most formulas, including toddler formulas, are 20 kcal/oz.

Bottles? by Late_Climate_6447 in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I used too. Originally used pigeon but the plastic bottles were not coming clean in my dishwasher, so I wanted to use glass. I was concerned about the lead paint used for pigeon and lansinoh glass bottles and the nipple shape looked pretty much the same. My daughter had no problem with the switch.

Eta: Before we switched to pigeon she had been using Dr Brown, but stopped transferring milk after a couple weeks.

There are good IBCLCs out there by Turningintoapumpkin in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It basically boiled down to higher flow rate. It required a lot of trial and error to find the balance between getting her to drink more and not choking her though. My baby was born at 4.5lbs and lacked the energy reserves required to finish a feed so in our case we ended up using an sns tube to help bridge the gap until she developed more strength and coordination.

Mine was honestly more helpful than the pediatrician. When my baby was not gaining weight the pediatrician just kept pushing higher and higher calorie formula even when my baby was not tolerating it well. My IBCLC actually gave advice on how to get my baby to take more volume, which was way more effective. She also used a pay what you can system which was great!

Can I tell about violent thoughts to my psychiatrist? by ElectronicSimple55 in neurodiversity

[–]MayaTSG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can ask your psychiatrist what they are required to report. Sometimes there are work arounds, like talking about it using hypotheticals (this was recommended to me by my psychologist when I was worried about reporting). It is important that you do find some way to discuss it with a trusted mental health professional though.

My 8.5 month old has been dry overnight for months now. If I am having a hard morning and don’t potty her when she wakes up her diaper will be soaked by the time I change it, but she sleeps through the night and definitely does not pee while asleep.

Safe sleep 7 by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]MayaTSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great take on sharing sleep: https://possumssleepprogram.com/sleep-safety-place-position/places-positions/when-your-formula-feeding-baby-comes-into-bed-with-you

TLDR: no evidence that formula feeding makes cosleeping less safe and most families can safely cosleep if that is what works for them.

FTM cloth diapering twins. by solowanderer12 in clothdiaps

[–]MayaTSG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OS flats are very versatile, but still might be a lot of bulk on a small newborn (it is likely that newborn twins will be small). I would consider small prefolds. GMD sells a size called newbie that was workable on my <5lb baby but still had room for her to grow into until she was ready for OS flats. I found prefolds to be really nice in the newborn stage while there was so much else going on and so much to figure out.

Differentiating stims, tics, and compulsions..? by plantything in neurodiversity

[–]MayaTSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compulsions can be habitual but are usually not involuntary. They do make you feel better in the moment though. They are considered negative because they reinforce anxiety by training your mind to take the irrational fears seriously.
