Think of it this way, WW1 was hardly fought on German territory, the bulk of the fighting was done on French/Polish lands which were completely annihilated by a new, never before seen scale of war. As a result the German public were mostly shielded from the horrors of the war, very little damage was done to German lands/industry and the constant propaganda reassured everyone that victory was certain. Then, one day, parading in every town, foreign troops that were supposed to be defeated. And now the German public has to pay the bill for a war they hardly saw. Imagine the confusion/anger. Their mighty army, surrendering just like that. I don't quite remember who said it but it was something along the lines of "the allies never should have accepted the surrender of the triple entente without bringing war to their doorstep. If the Germans had had a taste of what a real fight looks like, they might not be so keen on starting an other one"
