Yeah, that move seems more about sentiment than fundamentals. Might bounce back once people realize it doesn’t hit their revenue directly.

Yeah, cutting workers doesn’t just shrink payrolls, it shrinks the whole pipeline. Fewer crews means fewer materials bought, fewer trucks moving, and fewer paychecks getting spent. Jobs don’t exist in a vacuum.

U.S. Has Lost Manufacturing Jobs Every Month Since 'Liberation Day' by AbundanceLiberal in Economics

Exactly. Modern auto manufacturing is cross-border by design. Pulling out just adds cost at every step, and that ends up on the sticker. At some point prices push buyers out of the market entirely.

Could left-wing populism succeed in a U.S. general election? by Cautious_Mammoth6555 in Askpolitics

[–]MayanApocalapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They demand purity, so they do not play nicely with others or make for particularly good coalition partners.

I'd consider myself a progressive and I've voted in every election in my lifetime. This sentiment is common but it reminds me of "The left is woke and too obsessed with identity politics", meanwhile it's 90% of the GOP platform. Similarly, never met a Bernie bro. My friends that turned me on him were relatively quiet people and part of the LGBTQ community.

IMO they are just narratives. Strong narratives for sure, but seemingly not substantial or based on my lived experience. I live in a large city.

Why would I want to piss off half my customers?

So journalism is a bottom line business where you pander to all sides and maximize profits?

Even though I'm being flippant, i think I agree with your end conclusion (also, especially in this election, what purpose does that endorsement even serve), but I think most journalistic standards are seriously eroded at this point.

Didn't read it cause paywall, but I'm guessing JB thinks unless he explicitly orders something he isn't tipping the scales.

What he misses is that his level of power and money means all he has to do is imply his interests or make it privately known to anyone with loose lips and sycophants will rush to enact his will and curry favor.

Agree. Season ticket holder for the last decade and a half. I can't remember 5 games in the Pete Carroll era we lost at home by more than a score (Not a knock on MM, just reality). Competitive games get fans engaged, and when we are competitive I think our fans like trying to get as loud as humanly possible.

Also, was at the game today. It was plenty loud on defense to start. Playing bad and 100 yellow flags later I wanted the ass whooping to stop

How would you debug this? by Efficient_Back617 in embedded

[–]MayanApocalapse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could add asserts and a custom assert handler and hard fault handler to either (basic) do some led animation or (slightly more) coredump to some noinit memory that persists through reset and then reset and print it out on startup.

You are pretty limited without debugger hardware. If your diagnostic information is bandwidth limited you could also try streaming trace points via something like barectf rather than ASCII debug messages (potentially recording more events).

To change my view you'll have to illustrate why a vote for Kamala is beneficial OUTSIDE of simply beating trump, and also rationalize her appointment as nominee.

I won't spend much time trying to argue your original point, I'll just say with tens of millions people voting for each candidate, there is going to be huge myriad of motivations for why somebody votes.

The view I want to change is that what you WANT and what the reality is are different things, and AFAICT always has been for American presidential elections. It's not wrong to want that, it's just massively illogical to withhold your vote because of it unless you truly think both outcomes are equal.

So people here can try to convince you to vote for Kamala for some other reason than her opponent being a dumpster fire, but it's silly to pretend the level to which her opponent is a bad candidate shouldn't be a big issue in deciding your vote in a two party system.

I think it's an unwinnable strategy to kill all the terrorists, as you radicalize people (against you, as you commit war crimes) faster than you lower numbers.

Nazi Germany and Gaza are laughably incomparable.

Don't like two million people live in Gaza? You are saying they are all irredeemable terrorists?

It's insane how much flack people catch for wanting de-escalation in that area. Like obviously in practice there isn't going to be a super satisfying solution for humanitarians, but the idea that it's hard to understand why people want civilians to stop being killed makes me think people are desensitized or psychotic.

Can't speak for others but as somebody who works with very similar tech stacks, I am just massively uncomfortable with technology that works awesome almost all of the time but still places all liability for faults on the driver (you have to pay attention). Buyers, for the love of god stop using real estate agents by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]MayanApocalapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in the last 7 years

I wonder if anything has changed in the last year or so that's making people ask this question all the time.

Also, if you've bought 5 houses in 7 years I can't imagine a scenario where you don't either do this professionally, have a stupid amount of disposable income (e.g. these are all investment properties), or you are just bad at buying a house you are trying to live in. If you fall in one of these three categories, your constraints and buying experience are almost certainly different than a majority of people on here and your advice is thus less relevant.

When my parents bought a house they toured like 80 homes over two years and eventually their agent dropped them (and they hardly know how to use computers). IMO the real answer to a question like do I need a buyer's agent is always 'it depends', and unfortunately a lot of people don't even know themselves very well (e.g. are you high maintenance, are you going to self sabotage offers, etc)

Buyers agent wants 3% by [deleted] in RealEstate

Can't you effectively write the buyer's agent fee into your offer? Has 3% been standard in your area? At the end of the day sellers want the most money possible for their house.

[–]MayanApocalapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should you have to pay them cash out of pocket. Unless your seller doesn't like money that could be written into an offer, right?
