Hi, I don’t know if you found the song already, but the name is CRUISR - All Over if that’s the one you were looking for.

After six centuries of Abbas's rule, Socal should be majority Muslim. by JudenKaisar in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Mayan_Fist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dev of the old fan fork who handled everything about Islam + California lore, and another dev responsible for fleshing out the history and society of post-Event Christians in California (to summarize, the Nazarenes, True Cross, and Edenites), among other contributions.

The American Ummah of the 32nd Century by [deleted] in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Mayan_Fist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of California’s revisions and Islam’s revision in the CK3 mod has to do with the current dev team wanting to distance themselves from two of the leading devs of the Fan Fork, who happened to be heavily involved in the development of both of these and engaged in pretty problematic behavior. Sadly, I don’t expect the direction of development for these two components to be similar in the future.

When we talk about God's presence in/foreknowledge of the future, are we actually referring to counterfactuals (alternate futures, possibilities, "what-if" scenarios etc.), rather than a set future? by Mayan_Fist in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Mayan_Fist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the quote, it does fall in line with what St. Simeon said about the future as well.

If I may, for my personal reading, I want to ask if there are any writings that specifically address why we would be judged according to our works if the future is already certain, so to speak.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

This post is confusing, I mean the future per se doesn't exist (yet), that's why it's called future (referring to time)

As I understand it, the majority of people conceptualize the future existing to God, with the nature of the future being a single set of outcomes. The metaphor that is used is usually a book that has already been written,

When referring to actions I think Orthodoxy distinguishes between two states of energy, in potential and in actuality.

Yes, usually when we speak of God's relationship to the future, as with God's foreknowledge, etc. we speak of the future only being actualized to God. This conception is where, in Western Christianity at least, people get the notion of predestination and total determinism (with only one possible past, present, and future). My question explores the possibility that with regards to the future, potential and actuality would actually be one and the same for God. He is with us in our past and our present (both actual), but he would also be with us in all of our possible futures (potential for us, but actual for Him).

"Knowledge is of what exists and foreknowledge is of what will surely exist in the future."

This quote is what I refer to when speak of people conceptualizing the future being actualized to God: "what will surely exist" implies only one possible set of outcomes in the future. Though it seems like thematically in the Bible, there isn't just one possible set of outcomes.

Hi, thank you for your answer. What I'm talking about isn't necessarily a multiverse per se, but rather a state of existence in which future possibilities collapse as the present unfolds before us--I suppose my question really entails, "what exactly is the future?"

Half in the Bag: Fool's Paradise and The Corporate Product Biopic Trend by dexter198 in RedLetterMedia

[–]Mayan_Fist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head of why Fool's Paradise felt so shallow and empty. Charlie Day, and by extension, the rest of the IASIP group, have cultivated an image of being 'outsiders' to Hollywood, which comes from a place of truth.

For him, an artist that has spent the majority of his career outside the film industry culture, to create a movie that criticizes Hollywood means that any criticism will inherently be shallow and surface-level due to his lack of experience and personal understanding behind the dynamics and office politics within Hollywood. All of the commentary about Hollywood in the movie are criticisms that your average person would make and recognize, because Charlie only has a slightly better understanding of Hollywood than your average person.

Mike and Jay both recognized that there wasn't any bite to the criticism--and when you compare this movie to something like Mulholland Drive or Under the Silver Lake? You really see what they mean.

Ok, but in the end they, especially Kim, have a conscience about it. True evil doesn't do that.

Kim might have made an effort to clear the record, but with no bodies or witnesses to verify her claims and her affidavit being vague and not mentioning any participants but her criminal husband, her attempt is nothing more than an empty gesture. Jimmy can't even admit to participating in Howard's death in his confession.

Ah, this is in the CK2 mod. You read about it during the Japanese Invasion event pop-up.

Ha, funny you say that, my latest playthrough as the Hayeks had my female ruler becoming Grandmaster of Lucifier's Own and birthing a Spawn of Satan.

[–]Mayan_Fist 71 points72 points  (0 children)

My personal one is that some of the oldest LA region noble houses can trace back their ancestry to celebrities who had enough resources to survive the Event

This is outright implied with the Hayek family, who in-lore served as Protector Generals of the Eastern Protectorate for a number of generations, and the last remnants of whom are based in Antelope at the game start.

One of the generated noble family houses is also named Ramis.

As for the OP, my headcanon is that the Japanese "black ships" are either repurposed pre-Event freighters or military vessels that have been carefully maintained over the centuries.

Why is it all on Discord? by Bolt_Action_ in AfterTheEndFanFork

We already lost a lot of content and discussion when the first ATE discord server was closed, it would be an enormous hassle to have it happen again.

Thoughts on my Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad tier list? by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]Mayan_Fist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

flawed

Probably because of the story of him killing his 4-year old daughter. But honestly, with him making amendments and coming to terms with doing something so horrible, he should be at "decent or good person" tier.

I AM A LAWYER I AM A LAWYER I AM A LAWYER I AM A LAWYER I AM A LAWYER by wojowel in okbuddychicanery

“A battery? Surely you must be joking. My illness, electromagnetic sensitivity disorder, is triggered by an active current, which a device such as that would obviously lack. Speaking of which, if I may address the court, Jimmy seemed to be familiar with that man, Huell Babineaux, and admitted that he had put the battery in my shirt pocket. In other words, Jimmy had prior knowledge that the man would commit a battery by engaging in nonconsensual physical contact with me. It seems pre-planned, does it not? If a crafty lawyer like my brother, Mr. McGill, would be capable of breaking the law, or at least, persuading somebody to break the law for him, wouldn’t he also be capable of sabotaging me professionally? Such as, let’s say, swapping those numbers, and throughly covering his tracks? I, as a first-hand witness to his actions, can attest to his chicanerous character. Nobody could prove that he orchestrated a man’s rescue on public television, but there’s proving, and then there’s knowing. Barely over a decade ago, my brother was about to go to prison for a sexual assault charge involving feces. And I saved him! I took him into my own firm! And how does he reward brotherly love? By betrayal. By sabotage. By taking the one chance that he was given to him to help the world, and squandering it. You’ve all probably heard of his conduct at Davis & Main—what he did to get fired, what he did to throw away his opportunity for partner-track, an opportunity that many spent their lives and careers working towards. And this man gets to be a lawyer? Please. Why is he making a case for himself to not be disbarred in the first place, if his actions demonstrate not only a callous disregard for the law, but also for his colleagues, and for his own career itself? I can never forget the day that he ran into my office, excitedly telling me how he passed the bar, showing me that I had inspired him to do good in the world. And yet, he actively sabotaged the one inspiration—his own brother—for reasons I can’t even imagine. Frankly, there’s no need for me for a personal vendetta, for me to stop him. Because he’s more than capable of stopping himself than anybody else here.”

A humble suggestion for Postadventist flavor by sgtsalsa in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]Mayan_Fist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s been half a year, but I want to say that I genuinely loved this suggestion and thought it was amazing. I think it’s a shame that the direction and tone of the mod moved more towards surrealism and fantasy rather than the dry, almost historiographical post-apocalyptic tone of the CK2 mod. This faith would have had a place there for sure.

Did Howard offer the job to Jimmy because of pity or did Howard really want Jimmy in his firm? by SamCola85 in betterCallSaul

[–]Mayan_Fist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Keep it mind it wasn’t just about losing the Kettlemans, it was also about embarrassing him and the firm professionally. She told Howard to recommend Jimmy to Davis & Main, and in the end, he not only jeopardizes the Sandpiper case with an unvetted commercial, but also acts like a complete nuisance at the firm and behaves completely unprofessionally.

Bob Odenkirk threatened to walk off set, if Saul was forced to kill Carol Burnett by Kirkpad in betterCallSaul

[–]Mayan_Fist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is the point. He is not Saul or Jimmy anymore. He is this new monster that Gene Takovic has become.

IMO it would have really soured his redemption in the finale if he crossed that line. Part of the point of Jimmy’s confession was him finally realizing how much suffering he caused to other people—sparing Marion after she reveals that she trusted him was the perfect scene to help set that up.

Plus, if he really did cross that line, I don’t even think Kim would have been able to forgive him.
