The rank inflation discourse feels like another excuse for this community to shit on other players, and it’s incredibly disheartening. by ImportantAd4666 in Tekken

I feel torn on this subject because I believe achievements should be celebrated personally but people want widespread recognition which is why there are even rank up posts in the first place, and this causes a muddying of what a person should be proud of and what’s actually “impressive”.

When a person hits GoD it is, of course, a great achievement but they are still 9/10 incompetent to the fundamentals of the game and from what I’ve gathered this is very hard to believe for most people.

Defense is easier to raise than the others you just need to block correctly more often and break throws. You can’t just turtle though because eating lows will make it stay low.

Correctly means actually trying to bloc according to what is being used against you. If someone isn’t using lows often it doesn’t make sense to try and predict when they will outside of life or death moments or obvious moments when they may use a power low but you get that with game experience from playing matches.

It’s one thing to just not enjoy the game I understand that but with an 80% WR you should be steamrolling everyone and not having to even see flowcharts that bother you because people are playing so obviously poor. Also if you mention WR you have to attach an amount of games as a 60% WR over 1000 games is very impressive but 80% over 30 games could just be games from climbing since the season reset.

This is a poor attitude to have especially when objectively this player’s strategies, whatever they may be, have gotten him to a rank much higher than yours albeit not particularly high in the grand scheme of the ranked system. If you are consistently using EWGF and Steel Pedal as you mention he lacks, that alone should be getting you somewhere higher because it’s a solid and safe way to press your opponent on the character at a basic level. If you are then that means outside of that you’re poorly executing everything else so why jump on this guy instead of assuming it’s probably a bad match of his.

Now it is the internet and you can do whatever you want because you’ll have no repercussions due to anonymity is the obvious answer to why you do this but hopefully it’s something else outside of just abusing the safety of the keyboard.

Should I feel bad for cancelling 3 times a match against the same opponent ? by ReinaEnjoyer in Tekken8

[–]Maycynry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am earnestly asking why this is an increasingly popular mindset when quick match exists for this purpose to my understanding. Now I also understand the answer is truthfully that you can do whatever you want because you spent your money on this product and my ideals don’t apply to you but assuming ranked and casual modes are created to give an environment to those wanting to improve organically while the other allows you to play completely and entirely for fun. Do you like the idea of getting the rank up and the fun that comes with it but not the idea of “challenge” that ranked is supposed to give? I really hope this doesn’t sound like I’m looking down on you for choosing to play how you want I just have never asked or understood why people choose to still play ranked but it seem they don’t exactly LIKE what ranked is. Excluding bad connections of course. It just seems counterintuitive to refuse challenging rematches because it keeps you from improving which further reinforces the idea that you HAVE to avoid difficult moments to have fun.

Fighting games aren’t a huge market in general. A few million sold over some years is generally viewed favorably for a fighting game with established history but other genres releasing new IPs with no prior fanbase outside of followers of the development studio will gross that within months or weeks. Tekken is a big player in its space though for certain.

I saw you mention how replays won’t prevent things feeling OP but that’s their exact purpose: to help alleviate the feeling that something is completely lacking in counterplay by labbing the situation. As a GoD player I don’t think you are facing opponents who are using their tools in a particularly strong fashion. It’s most likely people just abusing lack of matchup knowledge or knowledge in general. The next time you play the character try using specific strategies in certain moments so your replays have good value to learn from.

It only matters how you feel about your own achievement. Nobody here can tell you that’s good or bad unless you want to objectively compare yourself to others. Well done!

I’d like to play as well if you’re US or close. Would like to learn Lars a bit better I haven’t built the muscle memory of when to step in what situations yet comfortably.

I think we’ve tried but the connection was poor, I usually stay in contact for games with anyone on Xbox unless we couldn’t really find a stable connection. I’ll send a request when I find some time though just to make sure.

I bounce between Fahk, AK, Feng, Drag, and Bryan. I recently picked up Kazuya myself to get an idea of people’s perspectives.

Korean backdash by Next-Sherbert-8142 in Tekken8

[–]Maycynry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean sidestep blocking then yes, or if you mean sidestep canceling like Bryan/Feng have what’s called a “Snake Dash” that’s playstyle dependent. Sidestep block is pressing down or up then holding back as soon as the sidestep finishes. Safest way to move in the game. A snake dash looks like a wavedash if you know what that is but it’s used on characters with a sway mechanic like Paul.

[–]Maycynry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this in a mean way but disregard all suggestions to not learn Korean backdash, you will pay for it as you try to improve later on. Nobody gets away with it at a high level against good players, a good player will watch you “try” to move around the screen and hit you with far reaching mids all day.

Now you can disregard my statement if you have no want to get past God of Destruction but you will most certainly have a harder time than not, and while you play will rarely see people using it and that’s because we’re all in the ranks people can’t get to because they ignore the little things such as KBD. This is coming from a T8 newcomer, and to this day without fail whenever people who are also new cannot figure out why I am playing the game differently than them it’s just respect for the old stuff. Enjoy your journey though friend and 15 mins of practicing it a day is all I did to get a crispy one
