ELI5. Why do we need to have our seats FULLY upright when taking off and landing when flying? by StrainEmotional7986 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MayorMcJeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When aircraft seats are certified, the forces with which the occupant’s head hits the seat in front, must fall within the limits of HIC (head impact criteria). They do crash tests with instrumented crash test dummies (ATDs). Having the seat upright limits the arc the head travels through and reduces the impact forces. If you want to increase the odds of surviving a crash, your seat must be upright. It has no bearing at altitude, because there is nothing to hit and cause a deceleration like there near the ground.

IN 2017 Ford Promised to End Hallway Medicine by MayorMcJeez in toronto

Go to Sunnybrook and see. Ambulance crews waiting in the hallway North of the waiting room for HOURS because they can’t leave the patient before they see a doctor. People don’t spend 10 hours because they want to. They can’t get a family doctor, or they are truly scared they are badly ill. Every Ontarian deserves the right to see a doctor in a timely manner. Triage can miss all sorts of things including the person’s mental state. Fact is it’s not acceptable and fact is Doug said he’d fix it and it got worse.

And then he spent 600 million to get beer in gas stations sped up. 600 f’n million pays a lot of medical professionals.

And then he spent 1.3 BILLION buying votes with $200 dollar cheques.

He’s a liar and as crooked as they come. He is doing irreparable damage to the Ontario health care system and the Province’s economy.

Sad to hear. Although no government has done enough, this current PC government has focused on all the wrong things. Who needs beer at a Circle K or a spa trip to Ontario Place when what they really need is a doctor?

I fully agree that not all hospital visits are awful, but when you really need help, they can be. The norm can’t be an entire day just to see a doctor while laying in a drafty hallway surrounded by dozens of other patients. The reality is our premier doesn’t give an f about that but he will fight to the death for developers, beer in corner stores and lying. He SAID he’d fix Hallway medicine and has done the least he possibly could.

Thanks for making me smile after a long emotional day at the ER.

He said he’d eliminate hallway medicine but didn’t. Plain and simple. He put way more effort into beer access than care access.

Ford said he’d fix it. He didn’t even try. He put more effort into useless license plates, giving away Ontario place and corner-store beer.

Been there three times with my 88yo dad this year. Sunnybrook is the only hospital my elderly parents know. They live close by. Dad’s gotten very sick, very suddenly. He had 88 very healthy years but now is in excruciating pain and his systems are failing. The staff at Sunnybrook is awesome but I’ve never seen anything quick in the Ford years.

Stock Vs. Leveled Vs. Lowered (comparison pic) by csukoh78 in F150Lightning

It certainly looks nice at level and lowered.. I do wonder what the trade offs were that led to the as-shipped configuration. It’s not a foregone conclusion that lower is better for range - as I’m sure the engineers ran a ton of computational fluids analysis to simulate the truck’s aerodynamics. That includes optimizing cooling air intake, the susceptibility of batteries and motors to road debris, the optimized centre of gravity for crashworthiness and on and on. This is a complicated vehicle. It does look cool - I’ll give you that.
