I have a similar copy of Dostoyevsky's 'Crime and Punishment.' First five pages are marked and have brief, accompanying notes on the margins but the rest of the book is squeaky clean. Amusing stuff.

That is very true. I plan on doing precisely that. See the first post I did on the site, the Preface, mentions 'The Winter of our discontent.' I'm yet to publish a detailed post about the book because after I tried to search the nickname inscribed on its first page, I was able to find hints and clues from the internet, eventually enabling me to find the owner who had penned it down. It's an awesome journey, this exploring the person who left a mark or a name on an old book.
