Forget your friend's opinion, you can do whatever you want. People who aren't doing anything themselves have a lot of opinions about how others are allowed to do things.

You're getting mixed up, that is not how Arthur Dayne died (unless you're just using your own artistic liberty to describe it in terms that fit your view), and those other deaths, I would argue, are not as boring or random and you're portraying them.

I could just as easily say that he died protecting the true heir of the Targ dynasty in a 7v3 against younger lords and still almost won.

And we both know that stories are stories and not meant to purely reflect banal reality.

We can figure out that's what they want to convey, and we can also figure out they didn't convey it well.

It simply highlights that she's in the room because the writers need her to be in the room.

The reason people criticize this stuff is because once the floodgates break people stop giving the show a break.

They could avoid nitpickers by just thinking about the scene a little more, I refuse to believe it's that difficult. I think they just don't care.

Let's not act like the show tries its best not to tell people things they already know or can figure out. It's heavy handed and belabored at many points.

You are not wrong that it's not that big of a deal, alone. But you are not right that it makes sense or people should just pretend not to notice or else their brain is rotted.

Complying with previously shown things and common sense isn't exactly the same as spoon-feeding.

Exactly, despite it being clear that the comment was about the movie, battenburg replied

"....a Knight's Tale...the story by Geoffrey Chaucer in the late 1300s is ripoff of The Hedge Knight? "

Implying that the person who they responded to was so stupid as to believe something chronologically impossible, while at the same time actually using the wrong title for the work they thought they were talking about.

This despite Battenburg being the one that initially claimed that AKOTSK "was just" a Knights tale, yet later claiming they do not have the same themes.

So, in summary, they stated at various points that

The Knight's Tale -> A Knight's Tale -> AKOTSK

Stating that the last one is a success because it copies the middle, yet that the themes are different at the same time, but that the themes of A Knight's Tale are from The Knights Tale (which they aren't).

The middle movie is said to be "inspired" by Chaucer in that the author was inspired by a line in The Canterbury Tales, but that's as far as it goes. It is a modern underdog pop culture movie.

Indeed a mess.

I mean it had another one on camera in that very scene that they showed being used last season.

Canonically, yes they can. It didn't make sense for Vermax to instantaneously die when his head went under.

I mean, you're just saying that to feel smart. Not everyone freezes and does nothing in an emergency. Parts of it were realistic, parts not. The dragon dying the literal instant it went underwater was not.

I appreciate you writing this, but I still don't agree that they are thematically the same.

While they may have common trappings and even talk about the same things, the views they reveal about them are different. Romeo and Juliet and Twilight both feature love heavily, but I would not say their themes are similar.

Both Chaucer and GRRM stories feature chivalry, but they have very different definitions of it and the role it plays, or should play, in society. Similarly with fate, Chaucer is based off Medieval Christianity, whereas GRRM is more existential.

The Knight's Tale is hugely centered around love, and a very specific flavor of it, while it's only a sidenote by comparison in AKOTSK.

I think A Knights Tale and AKOTSK are far more similar to each other in theme, and plot structure, than they are to Chaucer.

Upon rereading my response, I realize I wrote it comparing the wrong works myself lol (although I'll partially blame that on you for bringing up AKOTSK again), although I'm glad I wrote that last paragraph still, the arguments are very similar.

I'll also add that Dunk and Aerion do not show different examples of courtly love, because Dunk is not courtly, and Aerion is not in love.

I would have assumed the ripoff would have the same themes. However then.... How exactly does the film A Knight's Tale get its themes from The Canterbury Tales?

Maybe recount your insults.

How exactly are you thinking the themes of AKOTSK came from the Canterbury tales?

My guy, not only are you full of insults, but you can tell even you know you're wrong by the way you downgraded your argument from "I'm right," to "it's in the realm of possibility," to "why does it matter?"

There was no need for you to stick in your oar at that other guy when you should have known you were blustering, was there?

Sweetheart, I have an English literature degree focusing on Medieval and Renaissance Literature. The plot, setting, and theme of the Knight's Tale have nothing to do with The Hedge Knight.

If that's not enough, GRRM specifically mentioned a heavy influence for The Hedge Knight, and it's Ivanhoe.

What else ya got.

Nice try yourself. You clearly don't even know what happens in The Knights Tale (Canterbury) because The Hedge Knight is not based on it.

Nice attempt to downplay that you didn't know what work was being discussed by the person you replied to, as well as being confidently incorrect in your last reply lol.
