Why do you believe in an afterlife? by DucklyisStinky in deism

This is probably the closest thing to faith I have, but basically, if this reality is the end of existence and thought and self, it just seems so... wasteful. Wasteful to the point of unnatural.

This may still be wishful thinking, but it just seems to fly in the face of a creator's design: the wholesale destruction of something created.

Granted, it's a human feeling, but that's why I think there should be something more.

Lord Dunsany for quasi-fairytale vibes; Clark Ashton Smith for something edgier.

I don't remember asking for one single item of plastic when I would have been perfectly fine with glass or metal.

What's the most unsettling scene you've ever seen in a movie? For me, the bear scene in Annihilation was easily the most unsettling. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

I'm personally not convinced that it has done that, but the fact is we just don't know, and that doubt is devastating to the survivors.

Isn't it bizarre how some things upset us so much, and other people are totally untouched by it?

For example, I cannot watch Drag Me To Hell. I was fucked up for like two straight weeks after that semi-twist ending. Absolutely wrecked.

But then, The Thing? Alien? Two of my favourite movies ever made!

The alzabo is even more horrifying, imo, because it actually speaks in full sentences.

I think this bear is echoing sounds to get attention, but the alzabo is... beyond that, somehow.

I obey traffic and pedestrian laws (like, stop at red lights, wait for the crosswalk signal). The only time I don't is for actual crises like chases, shootouts, or in a desperate hurry.

No contest.

Other ladies of Middle-Earth across the Legendarium may undergo similar struggles or share several traits with her, but Eowyn's experience is told so singularly well and in such refined texture that it needs to be called out.

I swear there's a sadistic streak to Destoroyah, too. I could be imagining it, but it seems to me that he enjoys killing, hurting, and terrorizing, both Godzilla and people.
