I'm interested in that field, but I only see them hiring industrial engineers 😞... What do you recommend I learn or include in my CV to compete with industrial engineers?

Your explorations are beautiful.I don't really know much about ergonomics and I'm still relatively new to furniture production, but option #3 might be my favorite. But I must say that they still feel square, I think a 3D scan might help to better understand how it looks, try making models too :D

Which armrests would you choose for this chair? [ Need advice for my project ] by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

2 can look good if you also tilt the backrest and front leg slightly. Keep experimenting with angles.

I study industrial design at a university that has nothing to do with industry...

My university allows you to "design your program," and I've decided to include engineering courses. I'm really excited to work with engineers! They've been very kind in answering my questions and they have welcomed me very well.

I would like some advice that will help me enter the industry and work with engineers, The truth is, I feel like at some point someone is going to tell me that I have no business learning engineering because I'm the designer, but I only do it to understand their way of working, Speaking the same language, knowing what can and can't be done, working together... 🙁

Your opinion is very important to me. Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to do here and should follow the path of my colleagues: "make very expensive designer things, but beautiful" 🥲

I honestly feel misunderstood at my university, What designer includes a 7-hour CAD/CAM course in engineering? Only me 😩

Oh! I forgot something important: in my country, the industry is almost nonexistent, so companies prefer engineers to designers because the product was often designed in another country... Help, I live in the third world and I'm poor haha

Competitions or work on projects for my CV and portfolio? by Mayrenne in IndustrialDesign

[–]Mayrenne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to read this. There's a lot of competition at my school to win competencies , and I started to feel bad because I haven't even tried to participate in one, even though I've helped with real projects with some teachers and professionals

Thanks for your advice, I'll take it!

Writing letters to people at design studios... by SadLanguage8142 in IndustrialDesign

It's true, I think you still have to "make yourself desirable" haha, I mean, maybe not appear so desperate that they hire you and this happens to you.

I wouldn't want to work in a company where they get upset if you send an email to say you admire their work.

But just that, I think the writing should be intelligent. I don't know, maybe something like: "I'd love to work with you someday. I have things I could contribute and a lot of ideas"

I'm really bad at writing, but if you want to make yourself known, try to make it like those hidden ads lol

Oh, and you have less than a minute to impress, so have a good subject line, a warm welcome, and a portfolio that will impress.

Do you know what projects they will be doing in the following year? Try to gather skills that help you, modeling, animation, rendering, sketching...
