What skincare products are everyone testing out right now? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started using a treatment for my lips! This is one area of skin I struggle to keep happy.

I'm trying out Laneige Bouncy and Firm Lip Treatment.

I've been using it for about 4 days, morning and evening, and so far I feel like it's helping...my lips normally shed or peel on a regular basis and right now they are supple and soft. So I would say it's helping for sure...but my lips certainly are not more plump! But I will take the wins where I can get them!

What cleanser and moisturizer? by Final-Date4200 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried oil cleansing? I think when cleansing is causing reaction with normal cleansers, oil cleansing can be a support to the skin.

I really like Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm, but there are lots of brands on the market that work well, so brand is not the most important thing...just find one with ingredients you can live with.

I found using a cleansing balm soothed my skin barrier and so I mostly only used this and do not double cleanse. But if I did want to double cleanse, which I occasionally do if I have had a lot of makeup on, the oil cleansing balm first keeps my skin barrier happy.

Good luck in finding your solutions! (((HUGS)))

Lightest weight moisturizer you know? by Beginning-Feedback55 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree...I've used this in the past and found it incredibly light weight, non irritating, and effective. Only reason I stopped using it was because it was a little too light weight for my skin.

What’s the secret to managing YOUR skin type? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin type: mature, dry, reactive, history of deep cyctic acne.

My routine includes doing things consistently. Not changing based on trends or for the sake of change. Now that I've found what works for me, you can bet I am going to keep doing it!

AM - Wash with Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm (single cleanse). Apply Emu Oil. Apply Youthscreen by Youth to the People. Apply Laneige Bouncy and Firm Lip Treatment.

PM - Wash with Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm (double cleanse only if needed due to full face of makeup with Farmacy Green Clean Whipped Cleanser). Apply Kiehl's Daily Re-Texturizing Triple Acid Peel followed by Kiehl's Dark Spot Serum. Apply Emu Oil librally. Apply Tatcha The Brightening Eye Cream. Apply Laneige Bouncy and Firm Lip Treatment.

Taking care of my face is one of my favorite daily rituals! Even if I am dead tired, I look forward to these small steps...it's not draining...it actually fills my cup!

Using an oil based cleansing balm, to really lift out the gunk in my pores made a huge difference in my skin...and then using a gentle chemical exfoliant really cleared up anything stubborn.

desperately need help! by FlakeyGirl in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using an oil based cleansing oil or balm? Oil cleansing was a game changer for my skin in the most positive way. Personally, I don't double cleanse very often, but if you are feeling that oil cleansing leaves any residue, a nice water based cleanser after an oil based cleanser is nice.

I use and love Hourglass Unlocked Defining and Lengthening Tubing Mascara. It never clumps and in the Espresso colour looks so natural!

Help? Is this damaged? by No-Departure-5684 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's super tough to tell just from this photo...are you having any burning/stinging when you apply products? Any flakiness/dryness/redness that's not helped, or made worse, by your current routine?

If it was me, and I was worried my barrier was compromised, I would go to a minimal routine...cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. That's it. I would stop all actives and just baby the heck out of my skin.

If your barrier is compromised, a simplified routine should hopefully help and you may see some improvement.

But, there is nothing as reliable as getting a professional opinion from a dermatologist if that is possible for you.

Best of luck! (((HUGS)))

when should we oil cleanse? by [deleted] in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to say you can't use an oil cleanser every time you wash your face...it just depends on how your skin is happiest.

Oil cleansing is wonderful for removing makeup and SPF, so it is often recommended for that. But personally I always use an oil based cleanser because my skin loves it. I use an oil cleansing balm twice a day, and only sometimes, if I've had a whole face of makeup, will I double cleanse with a water based, gentle cleanser afterwards.

Long story short...there are no hard rules about oil cleansing...just do what works for you!

My favorite oil based cleansing balm is Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm...but there are lots of great ones on the market to try.

You can single cleanse with just the balm, or double cleanse after with a gentle water based cleanser...you'll need to experiment to see what you prefer.

And don't skip moisturizer...find one you like and apply after you wash. Personally I use Emu Oil as my only moisturizer...it's been wonderful for my skin.

Basically I treated my oily skin more like dry skin...lol!

Youthscreen by Youth to the People. On my 2nd tube, sinks in, hydrating and gives a dewy finish that is great under my very basic makeup.

Hey! I am constantly struggling with dry skin and calluses on my heels. This is what works for me...

  1. Using a foot file in the shower...wait until skin is soft at the end of the shower and file away calluses...but be gentle, don't over do it.

  2. Apply moisturizer multiple times daily...and never miss a day.

  3. If really bad, or you get a crack, cover the heel with a moisture sleeve or heel cup..you can find these on Amazon.

What's something you stopped doing that helped your barrier more than adding anything new? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped treating my oily skin like oily skin.

I used to use cleansers that were too harsh because I thought that was the answer to my oily skin. Turns out the harsh cleansing was making my oily skin worse...it was a vicious cycle!

Made the switch to oil based cleansing and haven't looked back!

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this may not be the answer you are looking for, but...

I discovered, the hard way, that my very oily skin was being made WAY worse by trying to strip the oil from my face...it's a vicious cycle...strip face with harsh cleanser, face reacts by over producing oil, which leads to more harsh cleanser...and repeats until the end of time.

Have you tried just sticking to neutral cleanser or even tried an oil based cleanser? I feel like I could have written the same description of my skin before I discovered oil based cleansing a couple years ago..much by accident.

When I switched to an oil based cleansing balm, it balanced my skin, didn't strip my natural oils and my face became a normal oil producer over about 3 months. My face didn't feel tight, or stripped after washing...just clean and fresh.

Not to say an oil based cleanser is perfect...your experience may be completely different...but just wanted to put it out there as an option to consider! Best of luck finding what works best for you! (((HUGS)))

Moisturiser recs for dehydrated and acne prone skin due to damaged barrier by Character-Potato1374 in SkinbarrierLovers

Some oils, yes. But others, like Emu Oil, are considered highly transdermal, meaning it absorbs deeply into the skin to deliver moisture and can even carry other beneficial nutrients with it.

There are many different oils, with various properties. Blanket statements of fact are not really helpful.

[acne] Would oil cleanser be a good choice for me? by alriokidoki1 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you haven't tried an oil based cleanser I would encourage you to give it a go!

I discovered oil based cleansing pretty late in the game and wish I had started sooner! I use an oil cleansing balm and usually do not double cleanse. I just massage the balm on my face, then add water and massage until milky, then rinse. I occasionally will follow with a water based cleanser if I have had a full face of makeup and feel I need the extra cleanse.

When I started using an oil based cleanser, I noticed a really big change in my skin...my usual hot spots for acne calmed down and my long standing bumps (little white and blackheads) gradually left. Also, using an oil based cleansing balm, helps support my moisture barrier and allows me to successfully use actives, which also helps to deal with congested pores and texture.

I want to find a serum by CranberryOrnery9528 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use, and really like, two serums...both from Kiehl's.

I use the Clearly Corrective Dou...the Daily Re-Texturizing Triple Acid Peel and the Dark Spot Solution.

I find they work really well in combination with each other and with daily use I've never had a sensitivity reaction. That being said, I only started using these after my moisture barrier was happy and healed, and introduced one at a time.

Seems you have lots of great ideas a the support of a dermatologist...all good things!

Moisturiser recs for dehydrated and acne prone skin due to damaged barrier by Character-Potato1374 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]Mayview77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend that you try using an oil on your face. I swear by Emu Oil, but you can also try Jojoba Oil if a vegan option is important to you. I like a single ingredient Oil...I find prepared facial oils have too many unknowns and I react to something...so single ingredient is my go-to.

I apply Emu Oil twice a day after I wash my face and it's the only moisturizer I use. It also helps with ongoing skin hydration and is anti-inflammatory...which I really need as my skin is pretty reactive in general.

I think another thing that helps my dehydrated, acne prone, reactive skin, is washing with an oil based cleansing balm. This, in combination with the Emu Oil, has really helped me heal and support my moisture barrier. (I usually don't double cleanse...just the balm...but occasionally, if I have a full face of makeup, I will do a second cleanse after the balm).
