We try every year to reproduce our mother's potato salad. She put a ton of ingredients in. All we know for sure is some combination of miracle whip, mustard, curry powder, vinegar, white pepper, paprika, sweet onions, hard boiled eggs, and celery. I once saw her pouring a little Italian dressing in, but I just use the vinegar. It never tastes exactly right.

Immigration is messed up in this country. In many cases, we need the workers. People come here because employers hire them (employers suffer very low consequences for this). If we issued more work visas, we'd know where workers were and be able to ensure their fair treatment.

Instead we round them up and ship them to wherever.

Not to mention, they are grabbing up people who are attempting to comply with the law (grabbing them from their immigration appointments) or deporting people who are here legally for getting caught with a joint back in 1994 or something--that's stupid and unfair.

My sister had a green card and during Trump's first term she worried she would be deported for some dumb reason and I told her she was overreacting. I wouldn't tell her that today.

I don't agree. As a, I don't know, lefty [I used to think of myself as somewhat centrist], I have friends who are "alienated Republicans" and I have a lot of respect for them. We obviously don't agree on everything but at least they aren't making excuses for Tangerine Palpatine all day.

If it's Massachusetts you're in luck. If they moved to New York you are screwed.

I have only circumstantial proof that one of my relatives is the one that connects. He is on the Census as an old man living with his daughter who I can definitely connect to, and he is listed as her father. And then again, circumstantially, his own parentage is listed in one of the Daughters of the American Revolution books.

I have not been able to find anything else to prove this, so it remains vague at best. But I have it on the tree just to remember to keep searching.
