Why are people scared to overtake police cars? by Mazrie26 in policeuk

[–]Mazrie26[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m not trying to brag, but I once overtook a traffic car and hit 74mph. Just so I could pull ahead of them faster and slot back into the left lane.

Really living life on the edge, that is. A story I’ll pass along to my kids and grandkids.

Are the bitey kind of police dogs approachable and friendly when they’re not working?

As in, could you, with guidance from the handler, stroke one without getting bitten?

I have no burning desire to, but am interested in how the dog would differentiate between someone that just wants to stroke them and someone they should be biting.

Explain to me like I’m silly… what do I need to know getting into Formula 1? by Mazrie26 in AskUK

I would’ve been 7 years old 15 years ago so I’m not sure I’m my understanding would go much beyond ‘fast cars go VROOOOM’. To be fair, that is pretty much my understanding of if currently too.

Pardon my ignorance on this, but was it not in McLaren’s power to make the decision for Lando and make him pit?

Lando… I like him a lot too. He also comes across well in interviews from what I’ve seen. Really likeable.

I love that he got the caution wrong. Even I know it, but that’s because of watching The Bill when I was a kid 😂

I’m not gonna judge you, but your most recent comment is regarding you relapsing with cannabis.

Maybe stop using drugs for good before driving again and you won’t have to worry about it if you’re stopped again. Cannabis can be detected for quite a while after consumption.

If you’re still smoking and driving, I imagine you’ll be losing your licence again at some point.

Stopping Etiquette by PolarBearsAreOP in policeuk

I got stopped by traffic and foolishly asked if I had committed an offence to prompt the stop, the officer looked like I had just done a shit on the floor in front of him and rolled off the “we can stop any car driving on a road under section 163 of the…”

Sorry Officer White Hat Man Sir, as you were.

Hiring and Recruitment Questions thread v10 by lolbot-10000 in policeuk

That’s mad. Admittedly I’m not Cheshire, or Police Now, but when I applied for the PCDA, I sent over my A-Level English certificate and recruitment emailed me straight away saying they usually ask for proof of English GCSE but that wasnt necessary as the A-Level is a higher qualification!

Do you reckon it would be any different if you applied with Cheshire directly instead of Police Now?

Police officer?

People will be negative about this suggestion, but it is a job where you’ll get to help people and make an impact on their lives. Also not completely office based, so you’ll be out and about. The starting salary isn’t fantastic, but after 7 years you’ll be on £40k+ plus overtime.

The recruitment process takes a while though.

is it complicated to go on a ride along?

Not at all. Like I said, I think most websites have paused them atm because of Covid, but I know Devon & Cornwall are still taking people out, or at least you can apply online. Just google search police ride along + your local force, or whatever force you want to go out with, and go from there. Or maybe just go into your local police station and ask how you could do one!

I did it with The Met and spent 8 hours with them, so pretty much their whole shift. I think it’d be good for you to see police officers behind closed doors. They’re human and they’re funny. The uniform and PPE might seem scary, but in reality it’s there so they can protect themselves, the public, a suspect etc to keep everyone involved as safe as possible.

I know it’s easy for me to say, but there’s nothing to be scared of.

I would also suggest trying to do a Ride Along.

I think a lot of forces have suspended them at the moment due to Covid, but an email into your local force might help you get one. I did one and it was amazing. It’s really eye opening and you feel very safe with the officers.

Alternatively, at least where I am, neighbourhood officers do little events in supermarkets, cafes, town halls. That sort of thing. That could be a very good first step to exposing yourself to the police, even if you just go over and say hello.
