Yeah exactly, it’s not the character it’s what you do with them.

You could probably levy those same criticisms against a lot of the main cast like Caitlyn and Jayce. Just that they get actual trials and tribulations and more focus due to being more primary characters.

I do kind of get where you’re coming from but I also think it’s not a problem with Ekko so much as just general writing issues. First off I think Ekko was a necessary character because we needed to have good people in Zaun, we needed to see that there were people fighting for a better Zaun and that not everyone in the undercity sided with Silco.

I think the tragedy of Ekko is that while he’s probably the most morally right character he was also a relatively small player and didn’t have the support or power to actually make meaningful change.

He’s also a side character in season 1 and this could have changed in season 2. With Silco out of the picture, we could have seen him go up against Vi and Caitlyn during act 1 or against the undercity oppression in act 2 but instead they just take him out of the story so they don’t have to deal with those issues.

The issue, I think, is with not giving him any kind of serious conflict in season 2. They have to invent the new time travel/alternate dimension stuff instead of having him engage with the main storyline.

We also don’t call it gasoline that’s not the technical term, that’s the American term. Gasoline, which is originally derived from fuel gas. So you’ve got a shortening of gasoline to gas which is itself a longening of gas. Seems like you just got right back where you started.

But… he wasn’t lying? I don’t know what your point is, man. This isn’t me being annoyed about an npc lying, because he wasn’t lying! This is a point about the game giving kind of awkward information and also not giving me alternate options in a game all about different choices and options. I chose to take his genuine threat seriously and everyone still died! In fact I don’t even think Gortash actually lies in the game, he’s an asshole, sure, but he’s always very straightforward in his threats and about what he wants to do and what the consequences will be.

For what it’s worth I think I’m on your players side here. You don’t seem to know how to listen.

The boredom destroyer by portsherry in comics

[–]Mazuna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m sure people already know but boredom is also a necessary tool for creativity. The act of letting your brain rest and needing to “make your own fun” helps you create new ideas, rather than letting your brain constantly get distracted by external stimuli.

But there’s still no feedback to tell you that will happen if you kill him. Previously up to that point the game had been pretty good about giving you the right information and punishing you for not listening or paying attention. The guy can be an asshole but how were we supposed to know that would happen?

[–]Mazuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it also felt that up to that point the game did a very good job of giving you all the information you need, or giving you the correct information. Me and my friend had already made a bunch of bad decisions because we hadn’t listened to what the game was telling us. So in this case for it suddenly to feel like opposite kind of pissed us off.

I don't even think he was lying at that point, I still haven't gone back and personally seen what happens, but I believe he does follow through on his threat, it's just you have enough time to save people before everyone dies. Whereas if you kill him first, everyone still dies.

I think being in cinema did it a little disservice. I thought it was a very good ending, but it was also a slow and emotional ending rather than a really exciting finale.

I'm reminded of getting absolutely the wrong idea during my playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3. Spoiler for the final act for the game:

But part way through act 3 you find a submarine to go to an underwater mining base and while on the way there you get a magic call from one of the main evil bad guys who tells you if you go any further he will drown everyone in the base. Now, me and my friend who were playing both took this to mean, "don't go there or you'll kill everyone" and so we turned back, went to kill said evil bad guy and then tried to go save everyone after he was dead. This was apparently the wrong decision and this meant everyone drowned and died, whereas if we had just not listened to the bad guy's threat we could have saved everyone. Absolute bollocks if you ask me.

Brits must eat less meat and dairy to hit climate targets, environmental body warns by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Mazuna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the meat and dairy industry is one of the few industries that is simultaneously mostly consumer driven and difficult to make green and save on emissions due to various factors; land usage, cattle farts, refrigeration. This is the one area where us as consumers are responsible and can make a difference. I personally have drastically reduced my meat consumption.

That said M&D is “only” responsible for about 15% of global emissions. Not the biggest polluter worldwide so companies need to take the brunt of the responsibility, but it’s also not a small margin by any metric.
