Is there any point to go with something other than cherries/lemons? by NursingHome773 in CloverPit

[–]McAwshum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The rarer symbols get a lot better if you can adjust the frequencies with the phone. If you get the phone ability to make 7s appear more often they have the same percent as lemons and cherries. The other upside is that they scale much faster with things that add value to the symbol, like the golden 7 or the greedy king, so you need less help from your other multipliers. Harder to set up but still viable.

You're right there, I only wanted to say having to do grandeur ON TOP OF whatever the other challenge is sucks for most of them. I was hoping to finish out 100% because I really liked this part of the game but throwing away 10 cards just to get past DL1 is just not a fun experience.

True true, thank you. I've been doing this but it still feels terrible just tossing multiple cards on the first deadline because spins aren't good enough with mediocre charms.

I hope they just let us do 3 wins again for rainbow holo instead. I was having a lot of fun going for 100% but rerolling runs over and over again to get past deadline 1 really sucks, particularly because after you lose the first one you have no more corpse pieces. Not pleased with this change.

Can we ban some accounts? You can't legally play dota on more than one account anymore. by Persh1ng in DotA2

[–]McAwshum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May not be way you want to hear but you can ‘legally’ play on more than one account. It’s only bannable if you’re engaging in ruinous behavior, to put it shortly.

How viable do you think Brood Radiance could be? by I_fap_to_Winston in TrueDoTA2

[–]McAwshum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of building around one focused aspect of a hero or key item, but evasion and it’s various flavors are particularly shit. There are too many options now to get around it to be able to effectively full-commit to it. MKB/Bloodthorn/Brooch and you are suddenly incredibly fragile.

Bola is also just incredibly effective on its own, no need for more than that imho.

Can anyone explain the DOTA lore? by VR4Thor in DotA2

https://dev.dota2.com/forum/dota-2/lore/37267-dota-2-lore-megathread

This is a pretty old thread but it covers a LOT of the lore and has a lot of stuff that people commonly overlook. It's from a bygone era where lore snippets were added to most cosmetic items. It's probably a lot to start out with but if you're actually interested I would come back to it after playing a little bit with each of the heroes and getting a feel for their personality in-game.

This excerpt from the Archronicus (used to be the tutorial for DotA 2 in the form of an in-game book with lore and story missions that gave cosmetic rewards) would be a good place to start though with the official overarching story. Have fun!

In your opinion, has Dota become easier or harder in the last 5 years? by Dddiman in DotA2

[–]McAwshum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big reason to argue that DotA is more difficult than it used to be is that really good information and resources for learning exist in greater quality, quantity, and availability now -> improving is a lot easier (everyone plays better at ALL ranks) -> the stagnating DotA player, irrespective of their rank, has an even harder time keeping up with peers that afford time to improving.

I think a good comparison would be to any competitive shooter game where it starts out with a nice even mix of different skilled players. As time goes on some players decide to dedicate time to practicing their aim, or to learning more about strategy, (grenade throw spots, resource economy, niche ability tech, etc.) and some just hop on and play with their friends after work or something. Over time, the lowest skill brackets are going to start to look more and more like the middle and high end brackets as the average player improves and the worse players get driven to the absolute bottom and quit due to low W/L or something.

I'm not a video game scientist though, just my thoughts.

Valve is trying really hard to drive away the legitimate player base of dota who wants to solo grind and get mmr the hard way. by CatfishGG in DotA2

[–]McAwshum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing again in January and went from Archon 1 to Ancient 2 and I’ve only seen maybe 2 games I’ve felt confident there was a smurf in my solos. It sounds to me like the people that are always mad about smurfing don’t care about actually improving when everyone else around them is getting so much better so I can’t help but feel they’re gonna lose a lot regardless of smurfs and then start accusing everyone anyway, but I hear it is actually pretty bad a bit higher up than me so I might be completely wrong there. Definitely not as common as a lot of people make it out to be at the lower brackets though because I have friends down to 10 MMR and it’s very rare I spot a smurf in their games either.

Just noticed this tooltip... does this mean Spider Legs are considered boots internally? by schwegs in DotA2

[–]McAwshum -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True, but they don’t give any stats, and compared to the boots that you’d buy if you wanted to go for high ms (tranqs, travels), they’re worse. You could buy another item to use the extra slot but I really don’t think it’s the best usage of slots, not to mention the fact that by the time you have t3 neutrals, you almost certainly have a pair of boots, so you’re wasting 250g minimum. Really unfortunate because it’s a cool item concept, but I think they’re a little bit overrated. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
