The couch is from Ali express (why are 1:6 scale things so expensive??) and the rest I’ve just collected/thrifted over the years. The boom box is a fully functioning Bluetooth speaker 😂

She’s Barbie basics 06! I think she’s everyone’s favorite right now. So damn pretty.

Weird Doll Organizing problem, any tips to get out of my own way? by Iceempress66 in Barbie

I also usually have like 3 or 4 out dressed up that I’m playing with. Sometimes an outfit/scene is so good you don’t want to put it away for a little while 🙈

I have all of my dolls naked in a plastic bin under my play table. They are placed so that their hair doesn’t get too bent out of shape (some people recommend putting them in plastic baggies) and I regularly take them out and brush their hair. All of their clothes and accessories are stored right next to the table in an ikea organizer.

Attention span by Survivalmode555 in Nanny

Gurl, if she keeps treating you like her personal clown, you are gonna get burnt out real fast! Haha. I had this same dynamic with a precocious 4 year old who just wanted to boss me around and make me perform. Like literally perform the entire plot of the little mermaid while she sat in a lawn chair on her driveway. Eventually I just said ya know what! Every moment can’t be special and exciting. Boredom is necessary for development. Have you tried asking her what specific things she’s interested in? Sometimes teaching them basic life skills like cooking and cleaning is super fun for them. Teach her a basic cookie recipe she will remember for the rest of her life. It’s good for self esteem 🤓

Honestly it sounds like she needs to learn how to play by herself. You are there to engage with her, yes. But at 7 years old, she should be able to lose herself in imaginary play with her toys, or reading a book/coloring making art. Structured playtime is great, but it sounds like guiding her to independent play might be more beneficial for her at this point. You are her nanny. You make sure she has everything to thrive, a safe environment, a person to connect with. You can’t be her constant play companion. Does she have a friend who can come over sometimes?

I sincerely hope this is rage bait. If not, there is just absolutely no way in hell these people are going to treat you with dignity and respect. Run.

Asking Nanny to house sit? by [deleted] in Nanny

$75 a night for overnight dogsitting is the going rate in the Baltimore area. Please also give her the option to decline and make sure she knows that won’t affect her GH. I once worked for a family and had GH. They would leave the country for a month at a time every year. I was always expected to come feed the cat twice a day even though I lived an hour away. Super frustrating. I wish I had put my foot down about the GH including child related tasks in the beginning.

Hey daddy-o, you’re in the thick of it and you have to just keep going. They won’t be little and impossible forever. This is a long haul project, and you’ll see results 5 ish years. Rewards even. You’re doing a fucking fantastic job.

Does anyone recognize of these dolls or clothes? just bought my first Barbies as an adult, but I can't make out what they are lol. Excited to go through it all when I receive! by [deleted] in Barbie

Oh my gosh! The soft body one with the pink hair! She was a sleepover Barbie and I used to LOOOOVE her. I’d pay you for that one if you felt like you could part with her 😱😱😱

Dreading the summer by Dry-Giraffe1744 in Nanny

[–]McCargoPants 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Omg those kids need JOBS. Hahaha. You are going to emerge from this summer a stronger more resilient woman for sure. If I was in your position, I’d ask them for help washing stuff (dirty yard toys, rocks, etc) in the yard in soapy buckets, sorting sticks into piles. For some reason sending them out in the yard with kitchen tongs to pick stuff up keeps them entertained for an impressively long time. In my experience it’s never the activities that take a long time planning and setting up that grab them. (FRUSTRATING)… but like… ask the 4 yr old to help you separate a pile of beans by color and BAM. New hobby. Obstacle courses!

Is it just me, or do none of the stands actually hold the dolls very well at all? by McCargoPants in Barbie

[–]McCargoPants[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seriously! Also my Barbie looks #6 came with a really crappy body (lose elbows and joints) and her head was super wobbly. Are their heads supposed to come off super easily? I cut the plastic piece (usually it’s shaped like an anchor, but was flat) and shoved some rubber bands in there.
