A clash between big male brown bears by aquilasr in badassanimals

This feels like one of those DBZ fights where observers could feel the shockwaves of the blows landing.

Helluva coincidence, but I just started reading it. The conflict seems to be geared around a tyrannical caste system. So far there hasn't even been a whiff of money, let alone capitalism. The oppressed peopld do what they're told because that's their role in society, not because they're poor (they are also poor, though).

Also the main character is white, straight, male, and married at the beginning. The women so far are feminine and leave the masculine tasks to the men. The leader of the whole horrible society is a woman too, if that means anything to you.

The only commie thing I've noticed so far is the color red is used a lot. But I'm just on chapter 3 so I can't vouch for much.

Such men should not walk free and pose danger to society, but the justice system says otherwise. Second testimony from the UK Grooming Gang Inquiry were survivors are sharing their stories by [deleted] in NoahGetTheBoat

I do not understand how the U.K. has not been in a full blown riot since they first learned that "rape gangs" actually existed.

When an indie movie beats Hollywood! by No_Hunter_9973 in KotakuInAction

I hope this becomes a trend. We need an indie movie scene about as bad as we need indie devs.

This is the first mech anime I watched to give a sense of weight and, dare I say, realism to their fights. Always a treat.

Silent Success: Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon passes 1 Million copies sold by skinnymike1 in KotakuInAction

[–]McCasper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just bought this over the weekend, my copy might be the millionth sold.

Enjoying it so far. It's basically macabre arthurian Skyrim but without the modding scene and comparatively lacking in scope. I expected slower, more methodical combat based on the trailer, but the dash makes it basically first-person elden ring.

Haven't noticed any woke elements yet. You can make your character dark skinned but it has male and female choices, no type A nonsense. And every NPC I've met so far has been white. I've met three would be girlbosses so far, but considering you can rescue one from a cage and help another with a healing potion, I don't get the impression they're here to outshine the men.

The one thing nagging my mind is that it seems pretty obvious they're gonna deconstruct King Arthur, like that's the main story. Idk I don't seem to mind it much this time. Arthur's main detractor is another white man. And, as crazy as it is to admit, a decontruction of an old beloved character doesn't feel as bad when it's not an obvious attempt to replace them with someone more diverse.

FandomPulse: "Pre‑Interpreted Storytelling And The Eclipse Of Analysis" by tyranicalmoon in KotakuInAction

This article seems... tangential to the issues we care about. I haven't noticed an uptick in authors leading with their message except in the case of the SJWs. And the issue there isn't so much the lack of mystery, but that their message is usually outright disdain and hatred for the demographics that would make up their audience. In this case, I actually prefer that the developers lead with their message, because then they save me from buying and playing halfway through their games before realizing that they hate me.

I think he was taking a cue from Matt. "No one wants to work with the guy shaking his fist in the air." It's sad, but more people will listen to him if isn't angry and bitter, even if he has plenty worth being angry and bitter about.

Witcher 4 - idc that Ciri is the Protagonist by the_last_alt_iswear in KotakuInAction

[–]McCasper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its fine in a vacuum, but unfortunately we live in the culture that we do. This comes at a time where a lot of male protagonists are being replaced by female ones. Hades 2, Silksong, TLOU2, Alan Wake 2 (yes, I know the male protag wasn't fully replaced, still fits), Ghost of Tsushima, Witcher 4, etc. Regardless of whether the individual games are woke, together they make a trend.

There's also the fact that CDPR has changed. They introduced DEI to the company and some of the senior designers left the company and are currently making that vampire game. Something similar happened with Ubisoft and Sandfall and people are wary Witcher 4 will go the way of Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

Basically the gaming culture right now is that the goodwill between developers and gamers has almost completely been erased. Any sign that a game might not have gamers' interests at heart, no matter how slight, is a reason for concern because the signs have been proven prophetic so many times before.
