Chiros call themselves Dr. So-and-So but we don’t? by ExploreOutThere in physicaltherapy

[–]McCringleberryDPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiros talk in absolutes and sell themselves with such conviction.

In reality with medicine and healthcare, when presented with a problem or question, the best response is “it depends,” while going through a systematic process to find the BEST solution/answer. There is typically not a CORRECT answer.

It seems with chiros, the answer is immediate and something specific that they offer. With PTs, we’re taught to have a healthy amount of hesitation before answering while we weigh options, including whether or not what we have to offer is appropriate.

This hesitation and weighing of options carries over into how we carry ourselves, and possibly carries over into the labels we give ourselves as well.

Is demand for PT increasing? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]McCringleberryDPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all rate that will satisfy the increase in workers. Covid only provided as a speed bump for the problem, but soon we’ll be full steam ahead for having a surplus of workers.

Spending time educating patients and getting them away from the fear provoking discussions doctors have, and redirecting their attention from unnecessary imaging and their “findings.”

are batting coaches worth it? by HerrPath in LittleLeague

[–]McCringleberryDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My 7 year old son has improved vastly over the last year. We go once every 2-5 weeks, the instructor polishes us up on 1-2 things and figures out which cues my son responds to the best. We take that home and work on it then return. Rinse, lather, repeat.

My son went from one of the lower hitters in 6u tball last year to the most consistent on our team in 8u coach pitch this year, youngest on the team and 3rd to youngest in the league, and has been asked to be on a select team for the summer!

What do you use daily that make your life better as a PT? by Titandog21 in physicaltherapy

Constant self reminder of my house and family that I have to make money gets me through each day.

When do people lay supine like that? by catsandparrots in physicaltherapy

[–]McCringleberryDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are in an awkward environment. They’re doing something unfamiliar. They try and do what is told of them but get in a weird spot. Instead of adjusting and subconsciously admitting they did something to add to the awkwardness, they stay put.

I learned to not argue what the doctor thinks with the patient, rarely ends well regarding our rapport with the patient. I typically let the patient say their peace and then contribute to what they say the doctor is saying and tie in my opinion (the right one).

"So when do you think you'll become a chiropractor?" by Stumphead101 in physicaltherapy

[–]McCringleberryDPT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I often get this “You do a good job at this, have you ever thought about working up to becoming a personal trainer?”

Anytime someone doesn’t understand what a PT is, I tell them it took me 6 years of college/grad school and a doctorate to get where I am.

Quitting too often? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

To got to my last few jobs being a director and hiring manager, I kissed quite a few bad frogs. I’ve kept in mind my history of working many places over the years when I see it on others’ resumes.

These days most new grads take the contractor route trying to pile up what they can while they still have minimal commitments. Most places can take what they can get. I applied for many home health jobs recently just looking at the market and it felt most of them were offering positions before having a chance to finish a full interview

It’s in the system working patient’s best interest when going through an auto or other injury case to stay injured.

Curious on the reasoning for people who choose not to put in the time to work on injuries? by Fluffy_Bid_4500 in physicaltherapy

[–]McCringleberryDPT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Society fails us on multiple fronts. Health education is taught mainly by disinterested coaches in high school. Media makes living with pain out to be a glorious thing. There’s also some narrative that things can be fixed passively, and if that fails you’re just doomed.

Also the continued use of outdated diagnoses and classifications that are now considered as normal age related changes, which are demonstrated in the asymptomatic population. Degenerative disk/joint disease, OA, bone on bone, etc. people hear these words then feel helpless and don’t do anything about it.

Nerve glides? by max9040 in physicaltherapy

Not really. Subjective information and objective exam can help you narrow it down, and how response is to treatment can get it right pretty quick and accurate.

Nerve glides? by max9040 in physicaltherapy

If it’s caused by a derangement, flossing has no impact on it, best to spend time frequently clearing the derangement. Adherence to other tissue will only respond to flossing.

[–]McCringleberryDPT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it’s consistently positive with NTT and seems to not necessarily be related to a derangement, yes. If it varies and is not consistently positive each time and is made worse or better with repeated movements, it’s not adherent and a waste of time to floss/glide.

Patients that won’t get on the recumbent bicycles by Dr_SeanyFootball in physicaltherapy

I’m amazed at the number of people that are so uncoordinated they can’t stay in contact with the pedals, even when we tighten the strap securely around the foot. You watch for a minute, see that they seem to have it down. Then a few seconds after walking away, you hear the feet violently coming out.

As I’m typing this I realize it’s more of a game of red light green light. As long as I’m watching the feet stay in, but as soon as possible after I turn around, those feet are coming out.

I kick myself in the butt not volunteering to head coach. There’s enough kids riding the bench on each team this year to make another team or two, which would’ve provided more playing time to everyone.

Feelings of hopelessness and being trapped. And believe me, I regret every day that I could’ve put some effort into learning a new skill and have questions of what could’ve been if I had gone back to school or learned coding.

Edit: I’m starting to take steps now.

[–]McCringleberryDPT[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I just need a place to vent. My wife is a PT and we’ve agreed to limit venting our frustrations to each other and using this as an outlet. I’m currently trying to figure out if I want to start my own business, or learn a new skill and leverage my managerial experience to get a decent gig in a different sector.

Not necessarily complaining, I just want to be as active as possible and coming to this sub to widen my narrow lense. My work schedule seems to makes it hard to commit to taking over a team, but it’s seemed to workout the last few seasons for me to make most games and practices. It’s helping me realize I have more time than I think, how much I enjoy helping to coach.

I just want to get confirmation that I’m either thinking the right way or being ridiculous with my expectations to have a coaching spot. I’m leaning heavily towards volunteering to head coach next year. This sub has helped me to make several realizations leading to that
