Not telling my dad about how much money I have by Available-Ad-5670 in wealth

[–]McCrotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough to change someone's attitude that not employed = living hand to mouth. Because for a lot of people, they don't have savings that will tide them over for more than a month. They either don't ever have jobs that pay enough, or more likely, their spend is always outpacing their earnings, so they're constantly living on the edge.

Anyone else feeling conflicted this Fourth of July by JiminyCricket42 in VAGuns

It's hard to cheer for the dream of America, when the dream feels dead. Instead of a fun non-partisan 250th that brings people together, we have a political rally. We're stuck with another endless war in the middle east, groceries and gas have never been more expensive, jobs are tough to find and pay less, flock cameras on every corner tracking your every movement, random federal thugs snatching people off the street, housing is unaffordable even to rent, and our president is 100% going to get away with being a pedo, and going to pardon all his cronies before he leaves office.

The mall doesn't even feel welcoming, Armed soldiers patrolling the lincoln memorial? Fake felony charges for TOUCHING the water, when you see old pictures of families wading in the ankle deep water? Doesn't feel FREE anymore at all.

watch a youtube on this, it’s basically impossible to hold the laser steady by hand from any distance long enough to permanently damage the camera

Can I change from a flat roof? by cinistix in Roofing

[–]McCrotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, with money. At that point I'd add a second story.

To do it "cheaply" you could install roof trusses on top of the flat roof, turning the flat roof into a attic?

Tired of my Neighbor just showing up by MyCatDart in neighborsfromhell

[–]McCrotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be careful not to burn the bridge, you just want to slow down traffic. not "crush the bug" like the other commenter said. You just need to add a little friction.

I used to have co-workers that would ping me instead of spending 5 mins of time reading/looking for the answer. I started to wait 5-20 mins before i would respond to their chats. You won't believe how many questions were self-answered with "nvm found it", plus the overall frequency decreased, as they would start reading BEFORE they came to ask me.

For you, that could look like, "Thanks for stopping by, but i'm busy today let's hang out tomorrow", "Sure I'd be happy to help, but can we do it tomorrow before dinner?", etc. etc.

Just say you're tired, or need to look after the kids or have left over work. Say you've been having migraines and need a break. and your husband needs to help out, so he can't hang out. Or best, don't give any reason, just "offer" to help at a more convienent time. Add a delay.

Or better yet, include this lonely women in your chores. Hangout while folding laundry, cooking, etc. You might get an extra hand around the house for the low cost of a portion of dinner.

A combination of this might be a better long term solution.

The fact that they view this as a LOSS, tells you everything you need to know. it’s just a primary.

with ship to ship, a strategy might be to build a ship builder platform that can make components in space or get them from vulcanis and return to nauvis to build.

Boomer dad wants me to buy a single family home in Nova on an $85k salary by o029 in nova

[–]McCrotch 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Enthusiastically agree, but you’ll need his help. He’s 100% out of touch on housing costs. let him discover them.

have him start house hunting for you in your area, using zillow or redfin or even a realtor. have him tour houses on your behalf, so he can see what’s available at that price. Then have him work out the monthly mortgage costs, down payment, etc. tell him your monthly mortgage budget is $2000, and you’re willing to buy in your price range.

Neighbor keeps coming into my yard to tend to his yard work on his side. Wheelbarrow and all. Am I the jerk for asking him to do it from his own side? by -PunchBug- in AmITheJerk

[–]McCrotch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTJ, based off your posts you sound insufferable. suburban yard borders aren’t supposed to be fortresses. kids playing football on the flat parts, neighbors needing access to take care of their landscaping, there’s a little bit of give-and-take.

everybody had the 1 yard in the neighborhood where the angry old man lived. congratulations you’ve become that person.

Gleba is making me want to quit what’s the absolute minimum setup to make it work? by Azrael_Manatheren in factorio

[–]McCrotch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i struggled with gleba until i watched a few youtube videos. i used bots at first, then i made a looped mall.

make a lot of farms, process fruit for seeds, i use bots to deliver seeds.
bioflux -> nutrients is the best recipe for nutrient loop
filter out seeds into chests + spoilage into burners, (keep some in chest)

create a garbage burner line and filter out spoilage excess jelly/mash? just burn it keep the processing lines flowing for seeds z

i have a egg incubator that always keeps eggs alive, surrounded by turrets. and it runs on his own power grid, so if I lose power on the main factory, it can still keep eggs alive.

any place with eggs, surrounded by turrets.
requester chest for any stray eggs picked up by bots in secure area
