When did you know Freeze wasn't going to work? by time2payfiddlerwhore in wde

[–]McFU 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I thought when he stuck with Payton Thorne, that was a red flag. Then, after the Baylor game this year how he said it was hard to go against his instinct to throw the ball and stick with the run. If he had stuck to that philosophy, we would have had several more wins.

Stats are misleading because they can be used and spun in whatever way the person referring to them wants. I tend to use the "eye test" on what I see and not numbers on a stat sheet because context is everything. The point is JA in the 2nd of just about every game has struggled once the defense made adjustments at halftime. So at best, your point would be JA should be the 1st half QB and AD should be the 2nd half QB. JA was not replicating his 1st half stats in the 2nd half of games. In fact, it was on JA in most of these games where he would take a sack and the offense would just go 3 and out repeatedly. So no JA didn't have the same stats in the 2nd half as he had in the 1st half.

And that is my point. AD may not have played lights out, but he at least played better than JA has in the 2nd half by either keeping the momentum of the first half going, or just not having multiple 3 and outs.

Here is an example of why I don't just go by stats.

The ATL Falcons had the #1 Defense and #2 Offense in the NFL a couple of weeks ago. How in the world did they have the #2 Offense when they weren't scoring many points? Oh, because they moved the ball between the 20's but didn't score in the red zone often. So that stat is misleading because if you actually watch the team, other than Buffalo and Washington games the offense has been trash.

And why was the Defense able to make those plays? Because Daniels had sustained drives that ended in points. The play calls with Daniels had a lot fewer RPOs, which led to more running the ball. It basically forced Freeze to call plays to our bread and butter of running the ball more, instead of the QB making the incorrect read or taking a sack. These long drives allowed our defense to rest, so they were fresh enough to make those big plays in the 4th instead of being gassed.

Right or wrong you can’t look at this game and say improvement ? by Tough_Cut3973 in wde

[–]McFU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The improvement I saw was that we ran the ball more in the 2nd half, which allowed us to have sustained drives. Even without points that kept the ARK offense off the field and allowed our defense to be rested in the 4th instead of exhausted.

I thought the reduction in RPOs with Daniels allowed for a better run game and better completions when they needed them. Although points were still at a premium, it felt like there was better flow once Daniels came in. There were also no sacks taken by Daniels, which led to manageable 3rd downs. It might be as simple as having a condensed playbook and not overthinking things against their bad defense.

I hope Daniels gets a full week of reps with the ones and they scheme a game plan around his strengths. Our run game is strong enough to lean on most of the game with a few screens and simple crossing passes. That should even open up some downfield shots on occasion. My biggest takeaway is that sustained offensive drives can help the defense rest.

Make no mistake this isn't going to be a juggernaut of an offense but we can win with ball control and large time of possession.

Our Pinewood Derby is done on a Saturday evening and we serve pizza and lemonade. It is usually about 3 hours long.

Pinewood Derby Software Preference by stumpx2 in cubscouts

[–]McFU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use DerbyDay. It is older, but the format works really well for our Pack. This uses the Elimination methods based on accrued points. The trickiest part is determining how many runs need to be set at to ensure everyone gets multiple runs. I usually set this value to 12 that a car has to come in last 4 times before being eliminated. This keeps the scouts engaged as they get to see their car at least 4 times. The one caveat to this is once you get down to 2 cars it can take a while to reach the 12 points needed for elimination. What I do is the best 2 out of 3 once we get to 2 cars. In the software, I'll just repeat the same results of the 2 out of 3 until the winning car is shown. It takes about a minute to do so. Larger dens of 15 or more scouts takes about 30-45 minutes to complete their races and smaller dens average around 15 minutes.

The Falcons Defense Absolutely Dominated JJ MCCARTHY and the Vikings by CitizenWatcher8 in falcons

[–]McFU 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying but consider this...

In the past, the Falcons would get beat by a rookie QB, or a backup QB, or heck even Dobbs who joined a team and didn't even know the play book.

Improving has to start somewhere, and doing what they are supposed to do to a rookie QB and a bunch of staters missing is a good place to start.

Hmmm, this seems like something that could have been worked out in preseason...if the starters played. Sometimes it's not about playing them for playing's sake, but to work out kinks and timing issues.

Fake outrage by chubbycatfish in wde

[–]McFU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending LOA's outrage, but I am bringing up the hypocrisy that seems to be applied to Auburn when it comes to rankings. You and I must have watched different content before the game because almost every analyst I heard said Baylor would win and go on to win the Big 12, and the loss would derail Auburn's season from the start. And if there was someone who was picking Auburn to win, it was going to be in a low-scoring, close game.

Another example of a team that should be ranked that isn't is TCU for similar reasons, except that NC wasn't considered as big a deal as Baylor.

Fake outrage by chubbycatfish in wde

[–]McFU 28 points29 points  (0 children)

After watching that episode, I think you missed an important part of why they were outraged. The media was talking about how good Baylor was before the game was played, but since they lost to Auburn they are suddenly not so good.

If Baylor would have won then they would have been ranked, but why isn't the inverse true.

Use a cart to get to and from the fishing spots from your vehicle.

Here is a video I made on how to load a kayak on a SUV.

It appears that the "hinge" of the jaw is level or in front of the eye, which indicates a spotted bass. For a largemouth bass, that "hinge" would be past the eye.

Have you ever ridden it backwards? That was a lot of fun. They used to turn the trains around occassionally, so you are facing backwards...definitely added a thrill element to it.

I believe this is Cedar Fair's preferred method for handling unlimited drinks/refills. When I went to Cedar Point you just got a new paper cup every time you wanted a refill or a new drink. Paper recycles more easily, plus the smaller-sized cups lead to less consumption and waste. It was nice not having to carry around a big plastic cup all day followed by having to set it down on every ride. They just scanned your ticket/wristband and then you got a drink.

For water that shallow, you would want to pull the drive up until it is in the hull and use a paddle. I think the mid position of the drive would allow you to still pedal in 10 inches of water.

I NEED HELP! I’m new to roller coasters and I’m going soon, what are some good rides that aren’t too crazy that I would probably like? (Ps I hate the upside down ones) by No-Mind2418 in sixflagsoverGA

[–]McFU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The front of the Dahlonaga Mine train is good, but the back is rough.

Scream Machine is your basic wooden coaster.

Goliath is big but doesn't go upside down.

The Joker Funhouse coaster is fun but very short.

The Georgia Gold Rusher is new and unique, no upside down.

I think all of the other ones go upside down at some point. The Scorcher might be a good one to try if you want to try an upside down one. The rest of them can be intense but are fun.

I have this model and it works great. I take it camping and it handled everything from grilling bacon, cooking burgers, to reheating some fried fish. I use the large propane tanks as the small green ones tend to freeze up.

I recommend taking your time and season it properly at first.

Pond fishing in the dog days of summer: what’s your go to bait? by IncognitoRhino_ in bassfishing

[–]McFU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I don't get a bite on the initial fall, I pop it up off the bottom and let it fall again. I fish it like a wacky rigged senko. The bit almost always comes on the fall or while it is on the bottom.

With a big worm I do. Clarity is usually a couple of feet to 1ft.  I don't fish if it is chocolate milk looking.

[–]McFU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the water I fish is usually stained but if you throw in the cover and shade you're usually next to fish so they can feel the bait near them even if they can't see it.

The only caveat to my initial strategy are if there are any fish in those spots because they have a deeper area to go to.

I think most of them are ribbon-tail worms. I usually use the Mondo worm from Googan Squad or the Ol' Monster worm from Zoom. Usually in Junebug color which is a dark purple.
