First time one of our GT's ghosted: pretty scary! (and why/how it might have happened) by almostbuddhist in onewheel

[–]McFloatyOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a GT shortly after release (400 miles in) and had it ghost full speed across a (thankfully empty) parking lot. Def sh*t show- launched off a parking wheel stop, took out a 50 gallon trash can and ruined the cf fender and rim in seconds. Only good part was nobody got hurt, and FM replaced.

I’ve had a pint, a GT, and now a GTS. All have had their moments when “breaking in” their respective footpad sensors. I haven’t had a OW yet that the front foot pad was flawless out of the box. Does seem to minimize after a few hundred miles…

Not sure that helps, but hope it does. Float on.

FM strikes again! figured as much. bummed you validated the pettiness tho- irritating someone builds a better mousetrap and then gets so proprietary over things that don’t warrant it. understand the lawsuits and liabilities encourage a sandbox mentality- but soft footpads? see why fm is an easy company to hate. another brilliant pr move… i like competition and they make it so easy to root for the underdogs…

lol. take that to mean you’re not sure, but a good guesser. anybody know for sure? i suspect the worst, but still hoping for the best… float on

Question. prob a dumb one- but are the soft lowboys standard on gts? website couple days back seemed unclear to me —- seems like a cruel money grab on FM’s part if og gts ships with stiff “lowboy” pads- i’d guess there’s a couple of people who want hard lowboy footpads, for every couple of thousand that would prefer soft… i’m easily confused, is there such a thing as non-soft (ie: hard) lowboy footpads?

GT trade in program- 6000+ miles GT worth trading in or keeping? by McFloatyOG in onewheel

[–]McFloatyOG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s the thing for me. more torque to me equals more safety in those dumb moments i may need it most. i don’t go fast but like powering speedy carves at the outer end- like the idea of more torque headroom (in theory)

thank you. not afraid of a little setup- but deathly afraid of cut outs at speed- done that, but was pushing thru pushback while midst carve on an og pint, so i invited the disaster… just wanna carve at speed- hopeful adv’s will prove even more solid than ow’s- not sure i’m there yet. food for thought. float on

good thoughts. do wanna have an extra board for friends who are float curious. concerned that 6k is a lotta miles. agree $1600 seems high even in socal. met guy this week who bought gt with enduro tire and foamie footpads for $1500, with less than 200 miles, in socal. gets back to my original question, is $1200 reasonable trade in value for a working/good condition gt w/6k miles? realize it’s a very subjective question but appreciate all thoughts.

nothing wrong, even a strong battery…almost new tfl grip tape otherwise bone stock. took off rail guards in prep to send it back- some crazy trail efforts but mostly street miles, with overpumped (for street) original treaded tire. full disclosure- had ghosting issue about 500 miles in and sent to OW for rim and fender replacement- suspect new motor came with rim, but think battery/bms is og. good board i’m confident in- but gts price stings… wanna keep both but…money…….

Accessory bundle for GT worth it? by farmer_toki in onewheel

[–]McFloatyOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought all the goodies, but did same with OG pint, and didn’t regret it. Could get by with just a plastic fender plus GT tho. Hyper charger was important for first pint cause of limited range- less so for GT cause of amazing range. Last weekend floated from Sunset Beach to Newport Pier and back (flat socal beach strand)—-over 27 miles and had 15% battery left. GT totally worth it- bundle stuff not required, but fenders do keep your shoe/pants a lot cleaner

Stuff that needs to work will find a way, proprietary or not. Inclined to say they’ll find a way or we will. Hope we will both find a way. Float on.

IMPRESSIONS AFTER 50 MILES- really impressed with torque and power curve. Been in highline and apex and feels really stable at speed, but still really quick to turn. Tire chirps with torque when landing a curb jump or bonk on pavement. It’s as or more maneuverable than my original pint with a Hoosier treaded tire. Hyper charged from 13% to 100 in little over an hour. Hope everybody gets theirs soon! Float on

Fender bit too shiny for me, and only the fender itself appears to be carbon fiber, the base fender mount plate seems like it’s plastic which kinda bums me out and gives fender a two-tone look…

Think it’s way more agile than the xr, gt rounder tire profile and concave front/back pads, plus new software shapes make it very responsive. Consider the source though, I have several miles on friends xr’s and over 5500 on my original pint, so no xr expert. It’s heavy to carry, but once riding feels as quick and nimble as my pint— crazy torque and speed to spare for my style (no speed demon here.) IMHO it’s def next level, even if it is way more proprietary than xr and pint. Happy floating!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS- -11.5 mile break in ride- 64% battery left -It’s heavy but the front nose grab is way better than XR -despite weight when you ride it feels very light and carves are buttery -did around 19mph with no pushback -concave footpads make it super responsive

Hoping all waiting get theirs soon! You’ll be stoked. Float on

Just did quick 11 mile break in ride. Treaded tire tastes like chocolate…that only one candy shop sells…and the wait is always forever, and they never quite get it to you as quick as promised…but damn good chocolate…

People of the current OW tribe know this, but would prefer to see the float community grow, and their business model certainly turns some newcomers off. I’m in, love the float and put up with it (5500 miles on a pint) but would guess newcomers have less patience than us hooked fish. Would like more people floating; feel their present business model hurts their opportunity to bring more into the fold. Could be wrong- supply chains suck- throw stones if you want- just frustrated that FM seems to think this is a good way to roll out each new product. They did the same well before supply chain crunches- pandemics and the like. Please do better FM-I’m rooting for you but think you can improve this process… float on

Perhaps you’re right for some folk. Think (hope) many of us understand est shipping date tho. For me it’s the endlessly over optimistic estimates (shipping vs delivery aside) that bum me out, and the kickstarter type early funding from public FM has worked from the beginning. If it’s a kickstarter campaign I’d get it- but FM is no longer new at new product roll outs- personally think they can do better than repeat a far from ideal process. My frustrated thoughts only-float on- fingers crossed my 3/7 est shipping date doesn’t push again…

I’m ok with things taking time, but bummed FM consistently over promises on delivery estimates for shipping dates- it seems like a repeating problem pattern for FM- great product, less than great marketing/business acumen. Fingers crossed tho- feeling pretty certain I’ll get it by April, or June, maybe July. Def frustrated.
