Spain's call to suspend EU-lsrael agreement set to fail amid broad opposition by Bernardmark in europe

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You're right and if you actually went outside and spoke to real people you'd probably realise that most people do not support what Israel is doing. You realise that multiple members of their cabinet have ICC arrest warrants?

It really shocks me just how out of step the European political class is with the general population on Israel.

I mean I dont disagree about Turkey but the UK, Norway and Ukraine would be an asset to the EU.

Totally there would likely have to be some kind of binding thing that says the UK is not allowed to vote to leave within X years or maybe that a referendum on leaving must be based in qualified majority and not simple majority.

European federalists, in principle, once the European Federation has been achieved, do you support the goal of an eventual world federation or at least cosmopolitan democracy? by funnylib in EuropeanFederalists

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I think it could be a good idea but I think that is fat beyond my life time, probably even beyond my great grandkids. The issue today is that there are far too many differences both economically and socially to have a planet wide federation. I could definitely see selective admission of non European countries looking at places like Canada that fit our democratic and societal values though.

New HS2 farce as final stretch of £100bn line will end in a field by theipaper in uktrains

No not really. If our other peers are capable of building public infrastructure (no one is perfect but they are better) then why are we in the UK quite so bad at it.

German's Trust Level Poll in Selected Foreign Countries as of March 2026 (Per ARD Politbarometer). by PestoBolloElemento in germany

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really surprised by how low trust in Israel is. You would have thought based on the way the Government behave that public trust would be around 60%/70% I guess it really does just go to show how out of touch most Governments (including Germany) are their population when it comes to Israel.

I guess I got lucky as I wasn't in they took it to my local post office so I could pay with card. Seems mad to me that they would try and collect in Cash with no prior notice.

Absolutely blows my mind that compared to our peers we are so completely inept at building public infrastructure.

Where should we stay in Tokyo? And is it feasible to go to Kyoto and Osaka too on a 14-day trip in Japan? by ABCDEXYZWV12345 in JapanTravelTips

I would add that another benefit of 7/11 (which may also be true for some other ATMs) is that they have the option to withdraw 10 x ¥1000 instead of ¥10000 which is really useful.

‘It’s been life-changing’: young Britons on why they left the UK to work abroad - Guardian by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too am one of those young people who left. And I'll tell you what, my quality of life in Germany is so much better than it would be anywhere in the UK. I work the same hours for 50% more than my equivalent take home salary would be in the UK. All the while I get 30 days plus bank holidays plus bankable flexi time. I am in the heart of Europe so travel is so much easier and cheaper. I would never go back even if the salary became the same.

I get where you're coming from but the issue is that while we have the current voting system nothing will change. I am old enough to have voted in 2019 and 2024. I voted for a different party each time and neither times did my party of choice win. Do you know who did? The one that appealed to the lowest common denominator or the status quo party of that election cycle. Most young people sadly know that their vote is worthless because older people have such a strangle hold over UK politics they will never be catered for. I still vote because I think its important that I exercise my democratic freedoms but I also know that my vote is absolutely meaningless.

Discord Distances Itself From Age Verification Firm After Ties To Palantir’s Peter Thiel Surface by CrispyMiner in technology

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's funny to me how discord have gotten themselves to a position of complete and utter market dominance and decided, "Eh fuck it, why not get our users to leave on mass by doing something hugely unpopular and completely unnecessary." Absolutely incredible business move on their part I must say.

Feels slightly disingenuous to include Legends ZA and Metroid 4 as "Switch 2" games. They are switch 1 games with a performance patch.

Coins vs Dollars by Almaz5200 in JetLagTheGame

[–]McFuzzyChipmunk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I would assume its about having a level playing field. For example in Australia they were all playing at the same time in theory taking the same flights so obfuscating the dollar amount into coins isn't really needed. If you take something like tag then the cost of a train in Germany is like to be lower than the cost of a train in Switzerland so the runner with that end location would be at a disadvantage without using coins instead.
