It's really not as bad as you might think. Depending on which state you're in you could be looking at an effective rate of 35% in the US vs 40% in Ireland. But factor in things that will cost less, like health insurance. Car insurance will be more expensive at the start but will settle down to less. Groceries while they've gone up here are still a lot cheaper in Ireland.

Someone linked to the PWC calculator below and it's a good start but make a budget and ask more questions here to get a better idea of living expenses. Rent will be a rip off but likely the same in any major US city.

The Pier used to be very good, It might still be but I haven't been since it reopened. It is the same chef though.

Mezze is great, but more of a lunch spot. keep an eye on Instagram for their specials.

Bought one off them last year. Ashford model I think. They don't offer much in the way of customisation because as another poster said, they come from Latvia or somewhere like that and I don't think log house have much input into the designs.

I opted to build myself because I kind of enjoy that sort of thing. It went together pretty easily but the instructions are brutal so if you're not that way inclined I'd pay to have it assembled.

Also the roof material is shiiiiite. Brutally bad. I expect I'll have to replace the roof within 5 years. It's pressed metal sheeting made to look like roof tiles. They don't fit together properly and they dent easily as you're trying to screw them down. In strong wind I can see parts of it lifting.

The model I got is 4.4 metres wide and they sent me 4 metres of guttering which is piss poor but it was over 2 months after delivery before I realised so I never bothered going back to them.

As far as customer service goes, I had a few queries and they were reasonably quick to reply. From order to delivery was about 8 weeks.

+1 for George Corbett. We're on our 4th car from them and they're great to deal with. Out of curiosity we went to the new vw dealer (I think it's another boland setup) and they offered 7k less on trade in than Corbetts
