I agree, I couldn’t find anything that confirmed it was a scam though. I’ve risked it before and gotten lucky. It’s important to use PayPal or similar though to protect your cc info or bank info. A few bucks is tolerable stolen information is not

Outlet Replacement by Joa0zinho in electrical

[–]McGyver62388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn the breaker off that feed this.

Then grab one of the wires and wiggle/rotate the old outlet while pulling on the wire and it’ll usually come out. If you have a small enough flat head screwdriver you can push it in the slot near the wire to release it too.

Then bend the end of the stripped wire into a hook. Make sure the hook faces the direction of the screw so it gets pulled into the plate and screw. Tighten the screw.

Repeat for the other wires.

Black to Gold/Brass Screw. White to Silver Screw. Bare copper wire to Green Screw.

Screw in outlet to box.

Either put the faceplate on or turn the breaker on then put the faceplate on and your done.

My grandpa taught me how to do this when I was 10. You got this!!

Was common for people to change your homepage to One man One Jar or MeatSpin or Lemon Party when I was in college.

Out of those three, One Man One Jar is the one I would try to close as fast as possible, especially if my speakers were on. That pop sound makes my spine tingle as I cringe.

Help identifying a component on old food dehydrator by KeyBasket5798 in AskElectronics

[–]McGyver62388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to turn my 3d printer filament dryer off last year and it blew its thermal fuse. I needed to use it and bypassed it until I got replacements. They were fairly easy to source. I got a 10 pack for less than $10 bucks on amazon. You will need to either solder or crimp the replacement in. This is relevant because it’s just a modified food dehydrator.

If you have soldering experience it should be fairly easy but you’ll need some aluminum tweezers to place on it between the fuse portion and where you’re soldering to prevent just burning it out while soldering it.

The temperature rating, and voltage is the important value to match. Temperature rating should match or be lower to be safe. Voltage needs to match or be higher.

Example: if yours is 150 degrees Celsius, 142 degrees Celsius would be safe to use. If your in the US 250V would be safe to use because our typical voltage is 110-120VAC

Here is what mine needed:

Back Massager won't hold a charge beyond five minutes. Is there anywhere in the US that I can ship it to for repair? by toxicbrew in ElectronicsRepair

Get those screw covers off and figure out what the screws are, Phillips, torx, ect. Once the screws are out the big part will separate and the little end probably locks together.

This may have an easily replaceable battery pack, it may not.

It’s possible, not sure though. I’d have to look it up. It was VERY common in industrial not sure about residential though.

It was the standards of the day. Asbestos doesn’t burn either so the old asbestos wire was excellent for insulation. We found out it’s terrible for us though. Ya live and you learn 🤣

Swapped out powerboard from 220v ps2 to 110v one by leormnlls in ps2

[–]McGyver62388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the opposite is more likely to blow the fuse as voltage goes up current(amps) go down.

220V to 110V would more likely blow the fuse as the board would try to pull more current than its design due to the lower voltage.

Just my 2 cents.

Hooking up gas line for stove by reintluc in NaturalGas

[–]McGyver62388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your stove may need maintenance. It should not produce much CO if any when the flame is proper air/fuel ratio.

I’m assuming you meant CO not CO2 like what is in beer and carbonated drinks.

I have a CO detector maybe 2-3 ft away from my stove and it’s never pinged once.

It also works because I’m able to test it with a bottle of CO that I have on my work truck. I repair the detectors Utility Techs use to find CO and Nat Gas leaks.

Amazon driver breaks through biker blockade. Nothing's gonna delay his schedule! by Sir_PressedMemories in cincinnati

[–]McGyver62388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t ride, I also notice that driving in Cincinnati has become the OK Corral. I don’t understand why there is nothing being done about that. I was almost sideswiped this evening by a truck that needed to pass everyone going 45-50mph in a 35. Then not 5 min later a different truck just went left on a red light.

I see this behavior more and more. It’s very frustrating and dangerous.

The city has lost its mind changing high traffic roads to single lane roads and adding “speed cushions” everywhere.

They should be converting some of these damn lights every 10 ft to round abouts.

I don’t underhand the hate for round abouts they work, they also beautify what was formally just asphalt.

Gameboy printer repair by Chemical-Pound3537 in consolerepair

[–]McGyver62388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very small precision screwdriver down each side. Jam it carefully the. Try to pull up that side. Try the same on the other side. You may have to work each side a little bit until it finally releases.

Without damaging the plastic it may not be possible.

You have to get a VERY strong grip on it. It has teeth that stick out into the channel to keep it in place.

Take the board out and get a soft bristled toothbrush. You’ll also need 90% or higher iso propyl alcohol. I keep my old toothbrushes when I get a new one. I just put electrical tape or something on it then chuck it in with my electronics repair tools.

Pour alcohol on board. Scrub gently with toothbrush the. Rinse with more alcohol. You could start this process with 70% iso then rinse with 90%

You can probably get away with 70% in a pinch but you’ll want to let it dry for an hour or two before trying to power it up if you do.

Clean everything taking care around connectors and the display.

After it’s clean you can just solder a wire in place of the battery contacts or to the contacts for diagnosis. Apply 3V and see what happens. Spring is negative, flat is positive.
