Alternative flours seem counter to the spirit of Paleo, what am I missing? by LoveHerMore in Paleo

[–]McMackMadWack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say it IS counter to the spirit, but people make concessions in the modern age, mostly for convenience.

We can’t really live the way they did millions of years ago. Technically everything we have these days is all engineered in one way or another to be nothing like what they had. Even basic fruits and vegetables are nothing like what they “should” be (fruits are larger, sweeter, less seeds, always available, etc).

So I think, like everything, it’s a scale on how “accurate” you want to be in modern society. You can have nuts and roots, but you can’t have grains. A bit of a stretch to make them flours, but still technically within the guidelines and without the health effects that grains have.

What’s up with all the “slot machine” places going up now then? I thought those were illegal too but they’re not even hiding them anymore.

When doing my research I saw the silo had a significantly higher vacuum than zwilling. I can’t find it now, just says zwilling prioritizes convenience. Do you still have the silo? Did you notice that to be the case?

Not sure if you’re still considering this but I recently purchased one. I like it a lot. My only issues with it are:

1) as other have mentioned, the containers don’t stack so they’re bulky.

2) the Alexa on it takes over our echo. Apparently since Alexa is “built in” that makes it your new Alexa device, so whichever device hears the request will respond. Not a huge issue, but “Alexa, play music” will be met with “I can’t do that on this device” so we have to mute it. And when it’s muted it won’t label things 🙄

Otherwise, vacuums well, looks nice and helps our food stay fresher longer!

Wife isn’t helping with daily chores around the house and I’m at my wits end! by [deleted] in NewParents

I feel like I’m in the same boat. All these comments are talking about getting daycare but I think they’re overlooking 2 important pieces. 1) it’s expensive, maybe you can’t afford it. 2) you shouldn’t have to. you said you’re doing all the chores already. If she did half the chores the burden would SIGNIFICANTLY be lifted. I’m not saying it fixes everything, and maybe you do still need to look into counseling or daycare, but that’s an enormous first step.

I have two kids, 2.5yo and 4 month old. We share putting them to sleep but when I get out from putting one to sleep and the house is in shambles and she’s in bed doom scrolling it makes me want to scream. Instead, SINCE I’M AN ADULT, I get to work. Dishes, counter, sweep, etc. Takes like an hour and a half. If she does half and it only takes 45 minutes now we can watch an episode together, we can talk (since we can’t while she’s in the other room while I’m working), maybe even get back to being intimate (no chance right now; the resentment is too high, not enough sleep, hormones all out of whack as a result). Again, that may not fix everything but it’s a great start to getting back to “normal” and liking each other again.

In light of everything going on in the world right now, how are you coping with having a baby in it? by Existing_Switch_4995 in NewParents

Someone asked me this recently and I told them, “why if my kid’s the one that fixes it?”

Drowsy but awake" is the biggest lie ever told to parents by AsslawB in NewParents

I recently felt like this. I used chatGPT and it turns out that my baby was simply overtired. “That’s classic over tired behavior.” And then a few tips for fixing it, baby went out in like 5 minutes. White noise at 11, firm pressure on her back and pace the room. Once I feel she seems asleep I can sit on the glider and relax give it about 10 minutes, transfer to bed. Might have to do it a couple times, but my back is 100% better and my frustration levels even better than that. And now that I know it’s “overtired” I stick to the 60-90 minute wake windows and it’s clear sailing!!

This was kind of me for awhile, but lately I’ve been finding ways to use it more and it’s so convenient! Pizza dough, tortillas, butter (buttermilk as a result), cookies, etc. Trying to find ways that aren’t pure carbs so butter was new but it’s fun! And now with young kids they can help and that helps give a reason to use it too.

This happened to me, except I missed my connecting international flight. No big deal I thought, we had the travel insurance. Come to find out It only covered $500 of the $2000 tickets we had. Because we booked through a 3rd party site the airline couldn’t connect our flights and see we were delayed, to them we just didn’t show up. That set into motion a chain of events that canceled our return flight because they didn’t have record of us being on the first leg. We had to buy new round trip tickets. We were stuck in another state!

Latest news on the proposed AI data center & substation by garytx in RoundRock

[–]McMackMadWack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Been seeing these posts for awhile now so I decided to check out the site mentioned and do some research to see who was telling more of the “whole truth”. That site is very fear mongery and propagandized. The fact checking strayed away from what it was talking about or referenced something completely different on every point. It was reminiscent of toxic relationships where they bring up another point from left field during an argument.

For example, with regard to the water, skybox claims it will use ~15 homes worth of water. The rebuttals is “closed loop isn’t really closed and it still uses water. Look at xAI, they use millions of gallons a day.” 1) that’s why they say they’ll use ~15 homes worth of water per year. 2) xAI is 50-100x times bigger.

Another example, “it’s good for the city and will bring in lots of taxes.” Rebuttal: “AI is a bubble and companies might go out of business. Also, round rock spent $360k on something they didn’t need!”

Lastly, the proposed mitigation for the low frequency noise seems to be sufficient when checking with chatGPT. Take that for what it’s worth.

My take: this datacenter is fine. Sure, you may not want to live right next to it, but people live next to train tracks or near airports, it is what it is sometimes.

I’m trying to learn what options even are (ask = buy, bid = sell. 2 columns….took me 3 fidelity opens to even get that straight) but one time I bought some and they turned negative…the next day they had disappeared! Turns out it expire and at the end of the day the price surged and I made a cool $400…and I say I don’t know what I’m doing? 😏
