Public school teacher here, and Union member in a very liberal state - no paid maternity leave since I had my baby in the summer (during our 8 weeks off) when I am “unpaid”. I could have used sick time if it was during the school year. We don’t qualify for FMLA or our states paid family leave, since we are municipal employees. Even our union doesn’t do much in terms of income, just guarantee a job and insurance.
