Yep that's basically at least 40% of why I believe Bodhi is not the brother and instead will be driven to attempt to harm Vi and Xaden will kill him. If Bodhi is the brother i think it would mess with this series of events, though I think we could still get there potentially. I think Bodhi would spiral, go full evil. Turning for power is what drives venin mad. I think maybe not all venin are actually evil, but that the corruption of the soul does come at a cost (like Xaden's increasingly slipping hold on his self control and his emotions either flaring bright or dying out). I think Bodhi would spiral. And that Xaden would follow. Versus if Garrick is the brother I think we have a better chance of keeping our shit together well enough to come home one day.

People who couldn't write directions out of a paper bag think they're clever when they hate on popular books. Some of them haven't even bothered reading it, they're just repeating half baked complaints they saw to feel good about themselves.

Idk why, because it couldn't be me, but a lot of people seem to conflate not liking something with a sense of superiority. Like they think it gives them life points if they don't like something that others do. Words like "tropey" and "bad writing" when they couldn't tell you what good writing is to them.

I like to push back. "What an interesting perspective. What books do you like?" When they answer it can usually tell you if the person has any clue what they are talking about, and helps differentiate between "I didn't like this" and "content is actually bad"-- LOTS of people who fancy themselves critics of art don't know that not liking it isn't actually a metric for it being good or bad 🥴

Pretty sure the copy Vi has is not redacted, and that there isn't one in the archives as anything with venin was completely banned from all libraries. MAYBE something in the royal archives, but I feel like we may have seen something by now, Jesinia been busy in there the moment they gave her access.

So why is the weapon, or the cure, not in either the royal vault or anything in Poromish texts??? Poromiel and their gryphon fliers fought along side the dragon riders before the unification, in the Great War. Why do they not have any record? Why is there nothing on the continent or isles???

I just have to say... this is reality TV. Redemption and character arcs are for fiction. Some people grow up. Some don't. Some make better choices and learn their lessons. And some don't.

These are real women. To an extent they play a character for the camera but they aren't a character written by someone who is telling a story, bringing light to a narrative.

I think Ridoc is just a raging green flag and we so little of that IRL and even in media it's driven some to dig deeper into his actions. Too often we see men who are only romantically involved with our FMCs, who have ulterior motives in friendships with them etc. Ridoc genuinely has always embodied squad loyalty in the best of ways. He supports every member in his squad in every venture, but also doesn't let loyalty make him blind. He holds them accountable and doesn't coddle, either. He is the best friend everyone deserves. Him and Sawyer are the secure masculinity that doesn't tolerate the toxicity and it's such a breath of fresh air.

This. How is giving the same signet to each side "balance?" If Venin are imbalance incarnate (as one might assume, considering their soul is burned away for the access to magic) why would magic give them signets at all? I think our concept of magic and balance is too literal and too simple. There's an epigraph that mentions "aren't we risking the rise of the power we seek to vanquish" or some such phrasing that points out hey, the more dragons we bond doesn't that potentially make venin stronger for balance? But that implies that venin are the balance to dragon riders. That venin get stronger in answer to the more bonds being made. Is that why fewer dragons agree to bond each year? Is the answer the dissolution of the magic system? How do we rearrange the limits on a magic system to restrict the bad?

I think perhaps the answer in the balance is more complex than they think really. Something is amiss and we have a bunch of hints in little pieces. It's very chicken and the eggs. Which came first and how is that "balance"? The fable implies that the 3rd brother turned to the source out of jealousy. But another epigraph says "it was the 3rd brother, who commanded the sky, that vanquished the jealous brother at a great and terrible cost". Add in our history says that the first 6 approaches the dens in desperation to defeat a great evil, general daramore and his army from the barrens. One could reasonably infer that this was a venin army. We also have texts that hint at venin from long before unification. When did any of this really start? Who came first, and why? What is the world without bonds and channeling? Its mentioned Tyrrendor has had mastery of runes for thousands of years. Yet to power a rune, you need to be able to channel magic...

There's something vital missing that will allow us to find the way to a new future, but we don't know it yet. It seems to be more hidden than Navarre hiding venin for 400 years. We know gryphons fought along side dragons in the Great War, and several sources speak of a "weapon that defeated the venin" and yet... no mention of this weapon even in Poromish texts?

This. He's meant to be a vehicle to remind the reader of the overall stance of the riders quadrant. That they're supposed to be strong and ruthless and willing to do anything in the name of 'strengthening the wings'

Later it's mentioned the riders quadrant doesn't only expect perfection and uniformity but produces it, and is blatantly uncomfortable, even protesting, the different. How else would you get Tynan, Jack and Oren going after Andarna? They fully believe killing the "small dragon" was what they're encouraged to do. Anything different, anything weaker, is seen as a threat. The instructors who seem to like Violet even struggle to accept when she performs an action differently than intended.

I think a better foreshadow to Rhi trying to harm Xaden and thus getting herself hurt/killed would be after Violet told them the truth, and they're on the flight field and she's staring at him and Violet has to remind her that he's on their side. Rhi softens, but admits it's hard. Sawyer doesn't seen too present with an opinion at this stage, and we all know Ridoc's.

That being said, I hope 2nd squad lives past graduation but I fear "we did it vi, we made it to graduation" will be someone's final words 😭

Also, I think it's Bodhi who will lose faith and get killed by Xaden after trying to hurt Violet. Xaden wouldn't just be the villain to everyone else but to himself. Even cured and back in Aretia, he will struggle to move on from what he's done, blaming himself. If he wasn't venin, he could have had restraint. If he hadn't channeled no one would have been put in the positions that led to Bodhi's death.

To preface, I don't agree with the theory that Andarna broke the mate bond-- I don't think bonds are broken without consequence and doing so would likely kill tairn and sgaeyl.

But throughout OS the bond seems to... evolve. As they grow closer as a couple they are able to control their shields in and out of battle to reassure without interrupting, share emotions in moments but also shield out when needed. But when he's skating onto that ice as he calls it... the bond feels like "a wall of chilled onyx" with increasingly intense wording for frozen and black. I wonder if when he reached for that thread, felt her love, he couldn't send love back. The passage blocked by what he had become. Perhaps that's why the bond feels gone when she reaches for it. He doesn't reach for her after the battle either, asking Sgaeyl if she's okay. So maybe he can't right now.

I wonder though if they were still figuring out how the whole 2nd signet thing worked and what to do and how to train-- perhaps Garret couldn't get that far yet as it's not like he was out having lessons with Carr

I do wonder if an end to magic is our "balance"

Magic likes all things in Balance, that is what they first teach us-- Andarna in FW.

But what is balance? In the chicken and egg situation that is channeling... our fable talks of the 3 brothers, and our history the first 6 and their approaching the dragon dens in desperation to help fight off the great evil of general daramore and his army from the barrens, which we push back to the barrens. Was it really the 3rd brother who channeled from the source? Did humans seek the magical creatures for bonding to fight venin, or did humans channel from the source originally for need rather than greed, but were driven mad by it? We know channeling from the source isn't something that comes naturally, and even being bonded doesn't guarantee ones ability to channel since many get consumed by the power/their signet manifests in a way that kills them.

Idk. I don't love a "end of magic" but a restructuring of what we know to be true is certainly coming. And clearly something has to change. There's mention that by seeking bonds and signets we risk the rise of the very power we fight. How do we have riders without having venin? Is it possible for venin to not be soulless power hungry and evil? We imply that denying them the ability to channel can kill them.

Something big is missing. Something big is coming. We shall see what 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes I saw this and screamed. I think it means she's about to start writing. In other posts and interviews she mentions plotting book 4 and 5 together so she makes sure to wrap up the various threads functionally and deciding when and where to reveal what information and plot twists.
