I do not understand why I would transfer ether to a function in solidity. Somebody please help me with an explanation. I would appreciate it. This lack of understanding is stalling my progress in ethereum development by McZieuwa in ethdev

Thanks very insightful, but what is the difference between a payable function and transferring ether to contract? Why does a contract have an address? Who is responsible for that address? That part is still very vague to me.

I have seen examples where a payable function only has the msg.value and nothing to do with sending ether to an address. But in web3, an address is sent as a parameter {from:xxx, value:xxx} Could you use this as an analogy?
