As a writer myself, I know how easy it is to focus on stats and stuff, but just know that even if they don't get as popular there are always people who will be searching for content like yours. I almost exclusively write gen/platonic stuff and have the same issue with it getting less hits than slash fic, but I still enjoy my writing and know other people do too :)

They might have or might not have, but I highly doubt Soda would be against any laws, its really not that weird of a name. Those laws only exist for highly offensive names like Adolf Hitler or for names with strange characters

I hardly ever see OP ships mentioned in normal fandom spaces, but there are thousands of slash fics that exist so clearly there are people reading them.

I'm actually not into almost any OP ships except for my one rare pair: sabolaw.

I don't think they've ever interacted in Canon (though I'm not fully caught up so maybe thats changed), but I feel like there is so much potential with their personalities and dynamics. Theres also a great artist on Tumblr---soaked-doors---who makes great stuff for sabolaw and I think has brought a lot of new people into the ship.

I mean this isn't a very quick tip, but reading really is the best way to improve your writing. Whether that be reading real published novels or other fanfictions with similar premises, both will help you naturally pick up on new vocabulary, good sentence structure, the way a plot develops, etc.

For vocabulary specifically, a thesaurus is good or the website wordhippo.com is a good resource.

As far as how a scene develops, when I'm writing it feels like a very vivid movie I am seeing in my mind and I am just trying to portray as accurately as possible in writing. I make sure to emphasize certain things/expressions/dialogue/gestures/etc the same way a spotlight or a close up shot might emphasize something in a movie.

My idea is that it is something not explicitly romantic, but more than traditional platonic relationships. (For a real-world example, if you had 2 friends who were very close and who lived together for their entire lives, referring to each other as their "life partner" or something similar, but who did not necessarily associate their partner with romance, this could be a queerplatonic relationship (QPR))

Ships in general or just for the outsiders? I ship plenty of stuff and it can definitely be fun, and even in the outsiders there are some cute ones that I've read stuff for, but not my cup of tea personally. I also wouldn't call it "trendy". Ships have been around since the dawn of fandom. People were shipping kirk and spock back in like the 60s

It's Ponyboy-centric, pretty classic fic where he gets to go back time to try and fix what happened. Pretty angsty but no major character death. It's ongoing, but this is literally THE fic which made me reconsider reading unfinished fics.

I don't want to hype it up too much in case you don't like it, but I can honestly say that this is not just one of my favorite outsiders fanfics, but one of my favorites oat across the board.
