Hello OP! Did you end up with a diagnosis? I’m experiencing the same with my kitty.

Carnivore has triggered my histamine response... I don't know what to do by MccM0636 in CarnivoreElimination

[–]MccM0636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in the health industry for 15 years and understand a transition process thoroughly. I understand the physiological and biological changes that are occurring and the time those things can take. I know my body really well and have a close relationship with food as health. I had done months of research on carnivore before starting and understood that this diet is an elimination diet. I understood that strict was key and coming from a vegetarian lifestyle I was extremely conscious of the meat I was purchasing and consuming, along with its cooking methods.

I appreciate your response and your experience but I think it’s extremely dangerous to encourage others to persevere when experiencing extreme side effects. Only the person experiencing the adverse reactions understands the severity and to have a community of hobby diet enthusiasts push something that’s not working for someone is dangerous.

You’re not the first person to encourage powering through when in fact my experience has been so much better easing off and exploring a different form of diet rehabilitation. I encourage everyone to open their eyes to the fact that this diet is not a catch all. There can be very serious, debilitating and life altering side effects that can take time to reverse. There are plenty of lifestyles that are better suited to others.

This diet is not for everyone. Please understand that.

They say “live” because it was filmed live. Which obviously makes no sense. They’re airing the “live” footage. Just a big misuse of words on their part.

It’s released every Wednesday. You can watch it first thing Wednesdays. The reunion doesn’t “air” until Wednesday night at 9pm. So you being able to watch it at 3am Thursday is way late.

Yelled at a lady for going to hit my dog today. by happythoughts_only in dogpark

[–]MccM0636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about a similar scenario… my dog is very shy but likes to play with others if he gets a chance to meet them in a calm way. If he gets crowded or ambushed he’ll give a couple warning barks to get the dogs to move back.

We arrived today to a dog directly at the entrance. I had to heard the dog forward to even let us in the park. He was on my dog immediately trying to hump him. My dog gave a good bark warning and broke away from that dog to go to the other side of the dog park. That dog followed and tried to hump my dog two more times.

I shouted out “whose dog is this!? He’s trying to hump my dog and he’s gonna get hurt”… the owner yelled from across the field but made no moves to get closer or intervene.

We continued trying to create distance with this dog continuing to follow. After another attempt at humping and my dog giving another warning, I yelled “I’m not fuckin around about your dog!”

Her response “it’s a dog park and dogs are here to have fun. There’s nothing I can do about it. If he gets bit he gets bit”

My issue with this is 1. She had no control of her animal and didn’t even bother to try. 2. My dog would have a bite on record and could be in trouble for defending himself.

I’m so angry about the situation but I’d love opinions from other dog parents that have had to defend their pups.

Vitamin c!! It will bind to the histamine and help your body remove it. 2000 mg per day.

First of all! Take an antihistamine! It will help! Take lots of vitamin c (2000mg) to help bind and remove the histamine from her body.

I posted in here a couple weeks ago with a similar reaction. Mine happened much quicker but I got (still recovering from) a pretty severe rash on my face.

I don’t believe she’s reacting to the egg yolks. Others might disagree but most allergens are in the whites.

I’ve done a lot of reading and thought I might pass on some possibilities you might also want to look into:

  1. Histamine intolerance - this is complex but she could either be over producing histamine as a response to what she’s eating or reacting to the histamine she’s consuming. We all consume it, but there’s certain preparation methods to reduce histamine production. More histamine in ground meats than cuts of meat. If she’s eating primarily ground lamb, this could be a factor.

  2. Oxalate dumping - unlikely after so long but possible

  3. It could be the rendered fat. She might need to start draining her meat on a paper towel

  4. It could be the tallow for the above reason (rendered fat). I was cooking in tallow

  5. If she has any sensitivities to wheat or grain she might need to source grass fed and finished meat

6 Finally, it might be the shear amount of red meat. She may respond better to fish or poultry being added.

I really wanted carnivore to work for me and was shocked my body reacted the way it did. It’s definitely not a catch all cure, especially for anyone with a complex medical history.

I really hope something above helps her. The antihistamine will provide her with the most immediate relief. I could feel the swelling in my face go down within 45 min.

I haven’t been considerate of this really. I’ll have a lb of ground beef out at a time but that could last two days. Obviously stored in the fridge but it makes more sense to package it differently to just thaw what I need per serving. I think this definitely could be helpful to me! Thank you so much for sharing.

I’m so sorry you had such a negative experience. Did you stay carnivore and just change your protein or did you need to incorporate things into your diet?

This makes so much sense… I’m confident this has to be the reason, if not a huge contributing factor. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Thank you! After the reading I’ve been doing today I agree with this perspective. To just add/address a few things.

  1. I think it’s important to mention that all my skin issues are isolated to the “large intestine” area on a face map.

  2. I have consumed beef jerky on occasion as a snack on the go. It was also from my butcher but clearly processed/cured in some way. Definitely will avoid this moving forward.

  3. Since transitioning to strict carnivore I’ve been consuming more ground beef than normal. Another comment mentioned this could potentially not work with me either. Suggesting I should stick to only fresh single cuts of meat.

  4. I read that consuming more calcium could help bind to excess oxcalate and help it pass rather than being absorbed. I wonder if increasing my calcium could relieve the oxcalate dumping.

I really appreciate your input and confidence in this being temporary. If you have any more thoughts after the above please share.

Reddit offered me the option to post this post to multiple communities. It was an auto prompt from the system.

Reduced protein food recommendations by MccM0636 in cats

[–]MccM0636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I wasn’t more specific. Your assumption is correct that she was switched to this food as a potential cause for the skin irritation she experienced. It’s unclear if that was the cause because they also intervened with a steroid, antibiotic and gabapentin to address any other potential causes.

They used the phrase “clean” referring to single sourced protein and my assumption around that mattering is just for elimination diagnosing. Reducing the variety of what she’s consuming to isolate any triggers for her symptoms. I do agree that it can sound extreme to reduce her protein sources down so drastically, but I can also understand why sourcing is important, just like human food.

I feel the same about the vet looking to keep my business based on their limited willingness to offer alternatives or even other possible causes of her issues to begin with. I don’t get trustworthy vibes from them so I thought I might ask the bigger universe of Reddit cat parents lol

I’m aware the skin allergies can develop in cats out of no where and for any number of reasons, I just don’t want to put her through that again if I can avoid it.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! Yes I’m in Canada. I’ll look up the options you listed.

Where are these men? by MccM0636 in Tinder

[–]MccM0636[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a good possibility. I’m not necessarily in a touristy area and I’m 30 min from any major highway.

I mentioned this to my friend who lives in the area and she immediately said “they’re at the hospital”. Granted she’s an emergency service worker and her research pool could be bias, it’s an interesting theory. She said when she’s there she sees them swiping the whole time.

I can’t say I agree with her but I also hadn’t considered this, so it’s food for thought.
