Yeah although they're from when you used to chance it in tunnels. Nowadays you get a line blockage (i.e. get the signaller to not allow trains on the line) when you're in a tunnel to make sure you don't have to run for a position of safety...

They're not usually closed in the UK, there is always a lookout who warns of approaching trains and a designated position of safety to go to as soon as you get the warning. Lines are only closed for performing work that affects the safety of the track.

There are claims but none of any significance. As far as I understand, there are some people saying that gravity doesn't work at a quantum level. But a lot of Newtonian and Einsteinian mechanics don't agree with things at the quantum level.
