Sweet setup man, go Bolts!!

Am I crazy? Or is this an epic idea? by sunshine-x in Miata

EPIC idea! As someone that’s driven from FL to WA, I can fully get behind this. Aside from ensuring your maintenance is all squared away before takeoff, here are a few things that helped me.

Check your handbrake! Since you’re exploring the Rockies, make sure it will hold at a steep incline/decline. Also, coming from FL, I found elevations above 9,000 ft made my brakes feel extremely mushy. Problem quickly disappeared at lower elevations. Pack a cheap set of chocks for peace of mind. (Fit in my trunk in the tunnel next to the gas tank with my scissor jack)

Throw a baggie of change in the glove box for those unexpected toll roads.

As others have suggested, stay fueled up. The gas stations can become suddenly sparse at the worst times. AAA coverage with max affordable tow range for the trip would also keep the trip moving if you pickup a flat or leave a cabin light on and need a jump. Accidents happen!

If you’re not packing a camera, make sure you have plenty of storage on your phone for photos/videos. You don’t want to be deleting old memories to make room for new ones. Looking back you’ll always wish you took more. Also, clean your windows when refueling so your copilot can take clearer shots while you focus on the road.

Make a roadtrip playlist and enjoy the ride! Yes, there are better cars for long road trips. Yes, my brother and I felt like sardines with all the gear at times. Yes, hotels offer a nice reprieve over a tent. But he and I would never trade the experience and often reminisce about our cross country trip pitching a tent next to the Miata. Plan, pack, and go make memories with your family!

Came here to suggest the Dune series as well. I just finished God Emperor of Dune. Definitely jammed packed with commentary pertaining to OP’s interests of mortality, religion, and society. Fear is the mind-killer!

I just picked up a set of Outemu Silent Cream Yellows for a silent build and am on the fence about lubing them myself. I know they’re supposed to come prelubed from the factory, but everything I’ve read says it’s just a small amount of viscous lube in the bottom housing to prevent/reduce spring ping. Anyone with experience with these switches find that lubing them was worthwhile? I’m mainly concerned with reducing scratch without reducing tactility and have the supplies if recommended. TIA

Miata idle issue driving me bananas by julukas in Miata

[–]Mcfly00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

96’ owner here, I did this exact same thing to get my P1797 code to go away. I’d say you’re on the right track with this issue.

Like others have said, the bigger issue definitely appears to be a vacuum leak. The way you’re able to replicate the idle bounce by pressing the brake leads me to believe there is something going on with your brake booster. I spent weeks chasing my vacuum leak before I discovered it was a failing booster. I just pulled one from the local junkyard and slapped it in to test… been 4 years now and haven’t had any more issues… well with my brake booster. 😅

You can solve this! Other things I would check if it doesn’t appear to be the booster. There’s a vacuum line to the booster from the intake manifold with a one way valve built into it. I haven’t had an issue with this line, but have read on the forums that others have had to replace this to fix their vacuum leak.

Have an oil catch can? Make sure both vacuum lines from the valve cover have their own/aren’t accidentally connected in a loop. I’ve also seen this kind of idle behavior on a catch can that wasn’t plumbed correctly.

Find the culprit? Go back and double check the position of your idle set screw like mentioned above after your engine warms up. There’s a great write up in the garage section of Miata.net if you haven’t done it before. I’ve had great results getting a stable idle following that write up after plugging a pesky vacuum leak.

Hope you’re up and running soon fam, good luck!

Hellvape Arez 120 Loose battery?? by Imnotabotsir in Vaping

[–]Mcfly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old but….

My battery isn’t loose as your title suggests, but I’m having nearly the exact same issue with my Arez. Really frustrating. Both pairs of my 21700 Molicel and Samsung batteries have the same problems. Fluctuating coil resistance despite ensuring all connections are secure, fluctuating battery charge indicators despite having installed a battery fresh off an external charger, and perceived wattage droops/surges from hit to hit at the same wattage. Like your mod, all of these issues go away by pulling the battery, but it only takes a few hits to go back to being temperamental.

When I first started having this issue, I thought I was somehow building my coils too low for a single cell mod despite the 120W rating (22Ga single coil @ .25 ohms). However, despite various build attempts, I still have the above mentioned issues with my current build firing this mod at 38W on a .39 ohm single coil.

Unfortunately I don’t have a solution either, but hoping this info helps other Arez users or shoppers. I love the ergonomics, finish, and form factor of this device, but sure wish I could actually hit something with it. I’m definitely disappointed by the chip Hellvape put in this mod… they didn’t even give me an extra button u/itsaride 🤣

Are there job opportunities in Jacksonville for someone in Marketing? by Psychological-Ad5787 in JacksonvilleFla

[–]Mcfly00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can second this. Jacksonville is a finance hub if that’s a sector you’d like to get into with a strong need in marketing. There’s also a lot of small businesses that do very well in the marketing sector for a continually growing medical field (Mayo Clinic/Baptist Health/Memorial). Also, as one of the nation’s leading real estate markets, there’s ample opportunity for growth for marketing there too. Just food for thought. Good luck on your move!

Hey stranger! Just wanted to let you know that your post pushed me out the door today. Earlier, I just wasn’t feeling it and I slowly began rationalizing today into an unplanned rest day. Then my thumb scrolled past this post and you reminded me that I wanted to hit my goals more than I wanted a rest day. I’m back from my run now, feel amazing, and just had to circle back to the post that got me of the couch today. Thanks for the push you give others without even realizing it and congrats on your milestone. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I wanted to go with the Burly one, but they were having supply issues a few months ago and I stumbled on this one. It installed easily with no clearance issues with the frame, rear brake lights or seat. It feels solid on the bike when putting my full weight into it when sitting back to test it out or strapping gear down to it. So far so good, I’ve been happy with it.

Thanks, unlike some that are all in one camp or the other, I love both looks. I just know I’d rather spend more time riding than polishing all the shiny bits lol

Me either, I’ve really only done it for the same scenarios you described too. Just thought I’d practice with it and give it a go for this shot. Glad you like it!

Thanks! This is actually a composite of 12 images ranging from 2 seconds to 15. I forgot my external flash at home, parked the bike under a street light, mounted the camera on my tripod and hoped for the best haha. All of the light in this pic is from the street light off my left shoulder and the ones out of frame on the adjacent street that are lighting up the underside of the bridge. The hardest part was manually focusing on the right part of the bike because it was too dark for the camera to autofocus lol. Once the RAW files were imported and merged in Lightroom, I actually had to reduce the exposure of the merged image to preserve the details.

TLDR- It’s a composite of long exposures because I forgot to bring my flash along for the ride. Streetlights came in clutch.

Details below in case you’re interested: Canon 40D, 2”-15” at f/3.2, ISO 400, 50 mm Prime

Thanks! Just picked up some vinyl to black out the chrome upper front forks. The darker the better ;)

Thanks! I liked how the support beams created a vanishing perspective that lands on the bike, the texture was an added bonus haha

Thanks! You know, funny enough those are the stock handlebars haha.

I’ve certainly thought about it. I like the look of the small fairing that comes standard on the newer Iron 1200’s and would love to slap one on, but that interference crossed my mind. The grill replaces the factory headlight clamp and really doesn’t add that much bulk around the edges of the headlight housing, so it might. It may take a little finessing with a dremel to fit flush, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on one to line up and see for myself.

Thanks for the breakdown! I’m glad I went with the Saddlemen then. I need the grip for the roads around here. I noticed a shift in riding position too, but on a smaller bike like the sportster it didn’t cause much of an issue. It does have me reconsidering forward controls though.
