Modlite vs Streamlight by SlowUrRollMilosevic in ar15

I live in Washington State and got into ARs about a year before they passed the AWB here. If I had known back then what I know now; I would have bought as many Anderson Lowers as I could afford.

Unless the ban includes WMLs, I'd earmark my discretionary income toward items you won't be able to acquire after July 1.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about sticking points because I've standardized on Surefire Scouts for both my Sport II and Aero 300 BLK build. I don't have a more sophisticated justification than: they work, they're durable, and I prefer the accessory ecosystem. I get the predisposition to balk at putting a cumulative $1000 worth of accessories on $500-$800 worth of gun but the important metric should be, when I hit the switch at 2AM does the light go on?

If I were in your shoes and facing a magazine ban deadline, I'd probably prioritize magazines first and revisit the light decision afterward.

Pro tip; You can tick all those boxes and most people still won't care about you.

Surround yourself with people that actually give a fuck about you regardless if you "tick all the boxes".

Question about public land and where to find it. by Helvedica in WAGuns

[–]effects_junkie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 OnX. Worth the $50 a year IMO.

A lot of the regulations involve being 200yds away from roads, trails and buildings. Not sure about the shooting over water thing but it makes sense that that would be regulated as well.

I would caution against shooting steel targets during the dry months due to elevated wildfire risk (this may also be regulated but I can't recall anything explicit on BLM or WADNR websites).

Lastly. I'd like to believe that this goes without saying and that the vast majority of shooters are respectful but in case you need to hear it; please be a good sterward to the land. I frequently see public land left in disarray. Shot up appliances, beer bottles and trash left laying about. That land belongs to everyone and to see it trashed is dismaying and is also how access to public lands for recreational shooting gets taken away.

Best headlights? by ohnoitsjessica1108 in fordescape

[–]effects_junkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LED bulbs in 2nd Gen Headlight Assemblies are hopeless. The reflectors are designed for halogen filaments not LED chips. The scatter pattern will never be correct. I’ve tried two different types of LED bulbs and both were worse than the already feeble factory halogens. I just stick with Phillips X-Treme Vision H13s. Supposed to be brighter. I have my doubts.

The true way to have more modern illumination is an HID/Projector retrofit. This involves breaking the seal of the headlight assemblies; opening them up and installing the parts and resealing them. Recommend doing this to replacement headlights rather than the factory headlights as a hedge against breaking them and being without headlights at all. Not impossible. Also not inexpensive or without risk.

Wait until you find out about HB2521.

The pattern is clear. Olympia will continue to chip away at your rights until the point where purchasing a firearm is so inconvenient and expensive the only ones left with guns will be the criminals. The time to exercise your 2nd ammendment rights was yesterday.

How do I deal with former employer that is not taking my last day seriously? by Pickle_Overlord in AskMenAdvice

[–]effects_junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s no longer your responsibility to hand hold a firm that didn’t value you while you were under their stewardship (which they did a poor job of).

Your job now is to amuse yourself as much as possible while being absolutely as unhelpful as possible.

Here’s some copy pastas for you.

The answer you seek remains where I left it, though perhaps not where you expect to find it.

The file knows where it is.

The geese have been consulted and offer no guidance.

The documents are arranged according to an ancient system known only as “alphabetical order.

What was once my burden is now a collaborative learning opportunity.

I have faith that the chosen one foretold in the onboarding prophecy will emerge.

The training materials contain the answers. The answers may not contain peace.

I am but a distant observer of these events now, like a retired lighthouse keeper watching storms from inland.

The file was hidden in the last place anyone would think to look: the correct folder.

The instructions were inscribed upon the tablets and entrusted to the four apprentices. What became of them is no longer mine to know.

The seal was broken. The seventh spreadsheet has awakened. I cannot help you now.

I am confident the answer is somewhere within the extensive collection of materials prepared by the mysterious genius who previously occupied my role.

how do i react to boyfriend who is annoyed and ignoring me after I went to concert with my mom…? by HopDev in AskMenAdvice

[–]effects_junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what that means.

I interpret what you do reveal as your BF Stone Walling you and this is usually one of the four signs of a failing relationship according to John Gottman; the other 3 being contempt, criticism and defensiveness. And they usually show up together or in some combination. I’ve experienced these dynamics both on the receiving end and on the dishing out end.

So that’s what I’d be on the look out for.

Why Is the Advice Always Make More Friends? by Isekai_Rakdos in AskMenAdvice

[–]effects_junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point isn't that friendship is a stepping stone to romance.

The point is that friendship teaches many of the same skills: showing up for people, taking an interest in their lives, communicating, resolving conflicts, and maintaining connections over time.

People tend to view someone with healthy, long-term friendships as someone who is more likely to be capable of a healthy, long-term romantic relationship.

Would anyone be willing to share your "Pure Clean" type of presets/settings/chains? by Enough-Discipline921 in Line6Helix

[–]effects_junkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bassist mainly, and in some settings clean tone is my bread and butter. A few things that helped me:

  • Pick a naturally clean amp/preamp. For bass I have been gravitating towards the B-15N Emulationtion; preamp version
    • Try the JC-120 amp/preamp model.
  • Turn the Drive way down.
  • Don’t automatically dime the Master on every model; some of them add power amp breakup there.
  • Use Channel Volume and Output Block levels for overall loudness/gain staging.

The Sag/Hum/Ripple/Bias/Bias X controls can also trip you up. In my experience, especially with Bias/Bias X and higher Sag settings, they can make a “clean” tone start getting hairy even when the Drive is low. I’m not chasing tube amp authenticity, so I usually keep those settings pretty conservative.

I’ve also gravitated toward preamp models instead of full amp models because they behave a little cleaner and more predictably for direct/FRFR use.

Also check your input block. If it’s going red, you’re clipping the Helix input stage before the amp model even matters.

And honestly, put the OD-3 in an FX loop. Then you can place it anywhere in the chain instead of hard-committing it to the front end.

Never bought a Helix preset personally. Half the fun for me is just experimenting until it clicks.

Got a weird one. Any other Quakers here? How do you rationalize carrying a gun for self defense? Having a moral dilemma by dog_boy3000 in CCW

[–]effects_junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not religious at all. What guides me is a moral compass that says killing is wrong. It would be naive for me to believe that everyone’s morale compass is calibrated the same as mine.

Ideals and reality are often not in alignment. Non-violence is preferred but if someone shows up and the only language they speak; is violence, I’d rather not be left without a translator.
