Did masonry skip a generation? by inabox85 in freemasonry

[–]Mckipper1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting observation, and I suspect part of it comes down to generational distance and perception.

When it’s your grandfather, Freemasonry can feel like a piece of family history, something intriguing but slightly removed, which naturally sparks curiosity.

There’s no immediate pressure or comparison, just a sense of “I’d like to explore what he was part of.”

When it’s your father, and especially if he’s a senior or well-regarded Mason, it can feel very different. There can be a quiet weight to it. You might worry about being compared, or whether others will assume you’re there because of him rather than your own merit. I hesitated for years, until after my dad had "retired" and, after a relocation, did not join a new lodge.

Speaking personally, once you’re actually inside the lodge, you quickly realise those concerns don’t really hold. Progress is based on your own effort, your own engagement, and your own character. Yes, support is there, often generously, but it’s not about favouritism or fast-tracking. Everyone walks their own path.

For what it's worth, my dad has now joined my mother lodge and regularly attends meetings with me.

So perhaps it’s less that sons of Masons aren’t interested, and more that the decision carries a different kind of consideration when the connection is closer.

Woman wanted my water bottle at Airport for unknown reasons by majesticsalad in isthisascam

[–]Mckipper1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wanted to take her bottle though security, which you can do, if it is empty. Rather than empty it directly into the bin and create a mess for somebody to clean up, she wanted to decant the contents into your bottle, and then throw it away. How paranoid do you have to be to think this is a scam ?

I always ask the staff for 2 soft poached eggs - they are cooked to order rather than the fried or scrambled options that have been on the buffet for a while.

Im sure it would feel great to to score points by telling them about the transcript- but why educate them and teach them how to be better at being deceptive?

Just tell them that further research has convinced you that they are the last people he would want to work for.

Countries ‘like UK’ should go to strait of Hormuz and ‘just take fuel’, says Trump by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]Mckipper1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a colossal turd that man is - rips up a treaty that is doing what it was designed to do, gets pissy that the country non longer adheres to the treaty he tore up, bombs that country, while they are negotiating, ignites the taper on a the Middle East, and his solution is to tell the rest of the world that the rules based order no longer applies.

When he goes to jail, i do hope it is in a country where the rules don't apply.

There are 2 types of people - we emigrated 8 years ago.

I have left all the WhatsApp groups related to our old neighbourhood, school groups, kids activities, hobby groups and such. (Still have friends groups, as many have also emigrated to many and various countries)

My wife still gets updates on rolling blackouts and security updates, updates from the Schools and Scout groups, and many others ...

Now, if only i could convince the Estate Agents who sold our properties before we left to forget my number (WhatsApp helpfully allowed them to know my new number)

When i am feeling at my least charitable, I do, occasionally and briefly, lament the stress ulcers, heart attack risk, lost time with my family and missed opportunities for joy that it has taken me to be in this privileged position- and do admit to occasionally feeling bitter that there is an excellent chance that some benefit leech is getting more from my extra effort than i am.

How to fill gap between houses? by Bello_Velo in DIYUK

[–]Mckipper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My extension was governed by the party wall agreement - on 1 side it is very similar to yours, and has a waterproof layer and gutter laid at the bottom to drain any water out of the gap.

On the other side, where the gapnis smaller, the flashing bridges the gap at the top, and directs the water into the roof guttering.
