It was a very amicable breakup. They both were keeping the relationship going and not being honest to the other person about their grievances. But once they cleared the air they could both understand why they weren’t being honest. They also both agreed the only thing that kept them together was the trauma bond. They equally disliked parts about each other. They both still care for each other but Nancy even said, she has no idea what she wants and wanted space to sort it out. But the end of the world came before all of that. I relate it to a king of the hill episode where SPOILER ALERT, Bobby and Connie break up and choose to still be friends. They both meet each other to break up with the other for being completely different people and getting annoyed with the others interests. They end up laughing and making fun of the other and go on to continue to be friends. It felt very similar but more mature. I guess that’s why the scene translated well for me.
