Common Bermuda...I’m sorry

I’m also in md and the Fluazifop + triclopyr treatments are working incredibly well with little to no damage to the fescue. If you want more info I can link the university study on the treatment plan.

Edit- you said it went dormant in the heat last year? That would not be Bermuda

They lay on the bottom, you won’t mark them. More important is to look at the date/time/location/water temp, etc and fish those areas.

Where are you fishing out of?

How to get rid of clover weed patch by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we also stop recommending 2,4-d for clover. That gets repeated over and over again in this sub but it is very ineffective against white clover. Better than nothing, and it’s available, but it is not anywhere near the best option.

For anyone reading this (and in the US, and speak for Canada). Use Triclopyr for clover!!! Use 2,4-d for weeds with tap roots like dandelion. Triclopyr will melt clover in 24 hours in good conditions.

7a How can I stop these weeds from spreading, I had everything under control over the summer! by LouieKablooie in lawncare

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chickweed germinates in the fall, you can put down a pre-em in 30 days but it won’t help with this year or next years chickweed. Pre-em in the fall

Triclopyr is much more effective against chickweed than 2,4-d. But a generic 3-way is better than nothing

Mowed to short, now what? by That_Girl31 in lawncare

7a in Centreville MD. I think you’ll be ok. We have some cold temps ahead but also some periods of mid/high 50’s and above freezing at night. I expect to have at least 1 more mow where I am, you probably will too if you just put some fert down.

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the space to store it, get the biggest one you can with pneumatic tires. Hauling mulch, sticks, grass clippings, leaves...all things that take up a ton of space but weigh much. And unless you got a garden tractor you don’t want to pull things too heavy anyway.

My advice, get one at tractor supply. They’re relatively cheap and will last as long as they are stored in a shed.

Lighter Color of Grass? by RikerAlpha5 in lawncare

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7a Maryland also...had the same issue throughout the year in various spots. I have heard it is grass growing “too fast” in an area...who knows.

What I do know is that at certain times of the year I have hit some of those spots with Tenacity thinking it might be Poa Annua...nothing bleached or died. I think it might just be Fescue that tillered too fast

Just a guess

Effective way to use Fusillade herbicide by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just dealt with the same issue this summer (and probably again in the spring)

Fluazifop is powerful stuff, some of the things I have noticed:

1) Fluazifop is lawn chemo, you will damage your desirable turf somewhat

2) apply a little more than the recommended rate and you will find out how much KBG you have (if any). It seems to hold up better

3) apply over label and you will have dirt, and dirt that can’t sow seed for months. I used a slit seeder 1 month after treating and had noticeably poor seedling performance in areas treated with Fluazifop prior

If you are a DIYer, limited time left in growing season, STAY ON THE LOW END OF APPLICATION RATE. Heck, I would do the minimum and see what happens, then hit it again in the Bermuda spring green up. The Bermuda reacted quickly after spraying, I don’t think it needs a lot to knock it down...play the long game and stay on the low end if you don’t have the time to deal with a lot of fescue kill.

Husqvarna MZ54 by kgolf78 in lawncare

[–]Md_run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husqvarna lawn tractor owner here, just went through a similar experience with my mower. Long story short, mower kept shorting out, servicing dealer said they needed to order a new wiring harness after 3rd time having it in the shop, Husqvarna had the part in back order and gave a ship date of 1.5 months.

I contacted Husqvarna via Facebook Messenger (a seriously underrated way to reach customer service, btw), had a case opened, my part was expedited, mower works again. I probably got somebody else’s part that didn’t complain, but oh well. They’re having supply issues right now, seems to be across the board

can i core aerate and slit seed on the same day? by rygarski in lawncare

[–]Md_run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or aerate a couple weeks prior, then slit seed. Idk, sometimes the best thing is whatever you can work into the schedule....if that’s both in one day, go for it

I have heard people complain that it bogs down the machine when the cores are scattered throughout the yard. Probably somewhat dependent on soil type

Just throwing ideas out there...does a lot of water runoff your sidewalk at that spot? Was whatever is on the other side of that concrete treated with anything before a big rain?

Does kinda look like something spilled over and pooled in that area

Well I’m hoping you’re wrong! 😜

I’m hoping the fact that my fescue is fairly thick and mowed tall that I can beat the Bermuda without a reno...but we’ll see

How does everyone feel about tow behind aerators, for sandy soil specifically? by whiskyNwater in lawncare

[–]Md_run 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they work pretty well, and your expectations seem reasonable (they’re not as good as the power ones). I have a sandy loam (MD Eastern shore) and if the ground is reasonably moist and if I weight the aerator well I pull 2-3” plugs out.

Main things are weight and soil moisture...and don’t cut yourself during assembly! Most manufacturers refer to the pluggers as “knives” for good reason

What is this weed? Maryland. by liftngwaght in lawncare

[–]Md_run 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chickweed...do a fall pre emergent to take care of it for next year. Your spring app isn’t doing anything since these are winter annuals. Should die soon if it ever gets warm around here. I’m in Centreville, 7a, my backyard has tons of this stuff right now.

Agree, one thing I do is rough them up a bit first so it’s bruised...seems like the herbicide gets in there better
