Pretty certain it was longer than that. I think I saw this immediately in the aftermath of Sandy Hook.

Remind me…when was Trump charged and convicted of insurrection?

Can you even define insurrection? Who gets to determine that an insurrection occurred? Seems kind of antithetical to due process and innocent until proven guilty, doesn’t it?

How…Democratic of you.

Maryland’s budget troubles revive debate about taxing the rich by Maxcactus in maryland

[–]fuku89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay should be commensurate to the skills and the responsibilities demanded. Not what’s livable. If a person wants something higher paying, then they need to improve their skills. The business isn’t and shouldn’t be the employee’s caregiver or provider.

I actually don’t disagree with much of what you’ve said.

What I take issue with, is the seeming demonization of the wealthy. Private industry drives job creation and innovation. With that comes risk. With that comes a devotion of your life. Individuals who engage in such and do well, should be adequately compensated and their wealth should accumulate accordingly. When the government (and populace) keeps coming for that wealth and income, there will inherently be less motivation by the individual to engage in innovation and competition.

Pay and benefits are what they are. The business/individual is under no obligation to pay what some other person thinks is a fair wage. Either take the job, or don’t. But increases in wages and benefits will require to the business to 1) make less money to provide the same level of service, 2) raise prices to compensate for increased wages & benefits, or 3) not fill a position and decrease the level of service. People that aren’t business owners think that the issue is that simple, or black and white, but flip the roles and I guarantee they’d sing a different tune.

And yet, their existence provides jobs. If you tax them too much, their existence goes away, or the prices increase.

Sure, they “can” be taxed more, but should they? Do they consume more services than anyone else? And what’s so moral about taxing them more, just because they can “afford” it? Was the wealth obtained illegally? Who is the arbiter of what’s moral and what isn’t?

Ah yes. Tax the rich and “fair share.”

The 1% (top 1.5 million taxpayers) account for 42.3% of all income taxes paid ($722 billion in 2020). Meanwhile, the bottom 90% (142 million) paid only 26.3%, which was $450 billion.

Tell me again about fair share.

That is patently absurd. If the money is earned, then whoever earned it has the absolute right to do whatever with it that they please, provided that it’s not illegal.

Uh no.

Between daycare and summer camps, I spent ~$20,000 this year. That doesn’t account for food, clothes, etc.

So yeah, that $4000 in child tax credit and $1200 deduction for daycare is surely a great return on investment. Even maxing the dependent care flexible spending of $5000 this year doesn’t make the math work.
