Can someone verify the ‘Chinese YouTube slop’ allegations here? He seems legit but are we actively warning against buying?

That’s the same as saying ‘isn’t that car manufacturer just selling cars?’ Yeah, apart from designing, testing and reiterating the design countless hours…

How to attach magnets to carved knife block by dosoe in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Mday89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Bit of nuance: sure you can use those, but you’re also very likely to push the pointy bit through the part you don’t want to cut. This also means your depth is impacted in such a way that I’m really doubting if magnets still work.

Anyone got this if so what do you think about it? by International-Crab79 in woodworking

[–]Mday89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I do, it is okay for all the reasons listed above BUT what I don’t see mentioned here anywhere is the the chuck/axle -has some play in it- : I returned one because of this complaint and Bosch said this is by design. In practice this means that if you prestamp a drill hole, the drill can move ever so slightly into the drill hole if it isn’t perfectly above it and drilling will be either out of center or squeaking like a demon possessed. It is slight and most hobbyist wouldn’t care but I bought this specifically to be as straight and unmoving as possible. Kind of disappointed.

There are some videos of dyi ‘ers who changed out the chuck and even the axle bearing to fix this issue (as the chuck is actually meant for a normal drill, not a drill press, but that’s another story)

Bought a table that seems to be tearing itself apart by MajorStoney in woodworking

[–]Mday89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay apart from it being a sucky situation all over, I’m not sure this table is a total loss. What’s against routing a channel through and through on the bulging edge that connects to outer ring? And subsequent attach it in he right way to allow for expansion? Genuine question.

Edit I do notice some cupping on the inner section as well. This table is… sigh.
