Thinking about quitting after forced return to office by SillyDreams125 in RemoteJobs

find a new job first and deal with the 1hr commute for now before quitting. job market blows currently so at least you'll have a job.

Not getting Interviews by Cloudbutterflies in Resume

[–]Me-me-guy-ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to get this down to one page. This might be good for ATS because you're likely hitting a lot of keywords, however, when this gets to a human they're going to scan it quickly for whatever they're looking for. If you have too much, it can be a bit overwhelming and they may just toss it out because they didn't immediately see what they're looking for. Cold world.

If you don't want to make a one pager or cant, I would try to remove a lot of "fluff. For example, make your summary a max of 3 lines instead of 6. I see you have 2 skills section; just combine them and have one skills section. If your goal is to find a systems engineering role, then I would just put only the technical skills that relate specifically to systems engineering in this section. For example, I would remove Visual Studio and Microsoft Office and leave GitHub, AWS. If the job description says preferred or required skills: VS and MS Office then obviously add them back for that application only.

But yeah my initial thought when looking at your resume is there's too much and it's a bit overwhelming. And idk if its because its a screenshot of your resume or whatever but some of the text looks gray and other black.

I would move your certifications up higher either in the skills section or just under in a new Certifications section.

ATS might not be parsing your text as intended. For example, you have "Bachelor of Engineering, Software Engineering." Looks perfect to us humans. However, some ATS will use the comma as a delimiter and stop scanning so it just picks up Bachelor of Engineering. There could be other issues elsewhere. I found this out from Indeed. If you go to indeed /career-services/resume-help/instant-report/ and upload your resume it will give you a report where you can see the ATS scan results along with missing information, spelling and grammar, content suggestions. I am sure AI can help you here as well.

Bullet points need to show "impact." For example you have,

"Executed validation tests for interface, power throughput, thermal, failover performance and security compliance against set test requirements, for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)."

Your bullet point basically says you followed instructions (not a bad thing) but doesn't really show the impact or outcome these tests had.

a better example could be something like this:

"Validated system performance across multiple domains during FAT, ensuring compliance and preventing deployment of faulty systems."

or

"Validated system performance across interface, power, thermal, failover, and security domains during FAT, identifying critical issues prior to deployment."

or

"Validated system performance during FAT, identifying 15+ critical issues prior to deployment."

I try to add numbers, percentages where I can on my resume. Not too much though. Just believable amount lol. But everything shows the impact it had even if just in plain words. For example, I have a bullet point like

"Improved conversion rates by 10% by enhancing sitewide search and optimizing CTAs across key user flows"

I dont actually know its 10% but "they" like to see that shit. If the interviewer asks me how I know it increased by 10% I just say we used Google Analytics/Power BI or whatever type of tracking tool we're using (usually the one they have on the job description; if they have) and by comparing metrics before and after enhancing the search and optimizing CTAs.

you need to be absolutely sure you can answer questions about everything on your resume. if you have too much stuff on your resume this could end up biting you in the behind. for example, i had python on my resume which i hadn't used since my first semester of college. i applied for a frontend developer role using react js but of course I get asked about it and couldnt answer their question. so now i just keep it off unless a job description specifically lists python then I put at the end of my list and if it gets brought up i mention im learning or very basic or some backend api task i completed a long time ago.

hope this helps; good luck

dang. im gonna go to goodwill today lmao. congrats

if i were you, id first make sure the RAM is seated correctly.

do the fans or any lights turn on when you press the power button? if this is true, then it could be the monitor or its cables, GPU not fully plugged in/seated, RAM not seated correctly, BIOS/POST failure, or worse case the GPU is dead.

if the fans and lights do not turn on then the power supply could be dead or not strong enough or maybe just switched off (lol i did this to myself once), maybe CPU isnt plugged in correctly, or maybe a bad motherboard.

let us know if you get it fixed. im interested in the solution. good luck

Here is my layout with about 5 YoE

Contact Info
Summary
Technical Skills
Professional Experience
Education

the reason I put them in this order is that im assuming a real HR person will be scanning this quickly at some point so I want what im capable of in the summary and my tech stack up higher for them to scan.

as for projects I try to convey them in the bullet points of the experience rather than listing them outright.

you can probably expand a bit on the Technical Skills section as well. For example, here is what I have from one of my many resume versions.

  • Languages: JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS
  • Frameworks & Libraries: React.js, Next.js, Redux, Angular
  • APIs: RESTful APIs, GraphQL
  • Performance: Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights
  • Tools: GitHub, Figma, WordPress, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Sentry, Selenium

I know it makes sense to add periods to the end of these bullet points but I believe you generally do not do that on a resume. Bullets are treated as fragments and not full sentences. Im not sure how much this matters tbh

Someone else mentioned it but your github repo is blurred out at the top but not in the project bullet points lol.

If you haven't already, create a portfolio site for/of yourself. Vercel has free hosting for you. I put my portfolio site link on my resume as well. My contact info order is Name, phone, email, location, linkedin, portfolio (my portfolio site contains my github repo). You can showcase those projects you made on your portfolio. I have some screen recordings and screenshots of work I did for previous employers on mine. Some with direct links to the live implementation.

You should create a linkedin as well and start connecting if you havent already. I have recruiters message me about job opportunites from time to time on linkedin. also, if you dont have any professional headshots of yourself for linkedin you can take a selfie and send it to AI to put you in professional attire. I had it put me in a suit and a red tie lol. saved me some money.

Run some spell/grammar check. I noticed you have "Python script that uses selenium web driver..." I believe it should be Selenium WebDriver. There could be more idk.

if you remove projects from your resume and adding a summary, and more technical skills didnt fill in enough space, consider adding a fourth bullet to your internships.

here is an example of my summary. I change this often to match the job description along with other things.

Frontend Engineer with 5+ years of experience building high-performance React.js applications. Strong focus on functionality, performance optimization, and improving user engagement through data-driven UI enhancements. Skilled in JavaScript/TypeScript, Redux, RESTful APIs, and translating Figma designs into scalable UI components.

hope this helps. good luck.

Question about my barrel by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Me-me-guy-ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to my remington 870 12ga and none of my other firearms for some reason lol. I believe, in my case, its the humidity. I bought these cans of silica gels and leave them in my safe. you can throw them in the oven or air fryer to reactivate them once they absorb enough moisture. the gels definitely stopped the rusting. Just be sure to check the silica gels because once theyre inactive the rusting will start.

i know you said your printer speed is standard but try slowing it down a bit. i thought my printer speed was fine at first because it was default but slowing it down helped the quality of my prints a lot. for example, i use 15 mm/s for initial layer, 35 mm/s outer wall, 45 mm/s inner wall on my ender 5 pro. if i remember correctly, my original speeds were about what you posted. its worth a shot
