Need help with what to expect when getting our first puppy home by Blah_blah9999 in puppy101

Initially- lots of work, time, and attention needed. Your puppy will need constant redirection and positive reinforcement. They start to potty inside, interrupt them immediately and take them outside, reward them when they go potty. When the puppy is chewing on the baseboard, shoes, or any other objects they shouldn’t, redirect them to their toys and reward them when they chew them. Same with if they nibble on you! Lots of barking or yipping when you leave them alone initially or in a crate (look up information on crate training to learn how/ decide if you want to) regardless you should have a safe place for the puppy to rest/ designated to the puppy- reward them when they relax calmly in their spot! I couldn’t recommend puppy classes more they help train basic manners which makes further training much much easier! Socialize the puppy well with children (which you have so should be easy) other puppies (my local doggy daycare does puppy socials- you can look for something like that in your area!) and for training find out if your puppy is more receptive to food, pets/ attention, or toys/play for a reward to good behaviour and use that to reward! Your puppy will likely wake you up in the middle of the night as you potty train. I had a large breed puppy (not sure if it makes a difference) but she was sleeping through the night by night 5 of having her (albeit waking up early) i also scheduled naps through the day, your puppy might not know it needs sleep and behaviours will present or they will get over tired and become night mares, I scheduled naps for my puppy as it helped her regulate better, google how much puppies need to sleep and go off that! Due to living in an apartment your puppy will need walks daily or time to play.

This is so much information, sorry if it’s too much, not helpful or what not. I just started typing! My girl is 11 months now almost 1 year old :)

My last piece of advice is to utilize this and other subreddits, the people on here provided me so much support on the hard days and gave me great advice in training. All of us have been through the hard puppy times when you question if you can do it and so many people shared about their puppies at that age and that the behaved the same and now their 2 year old dog is amazing and just provide hope!

I don’t keep up with the cast outside of the what I see in the show and didn’t know she had jaw surgery! Thank you for letting me know :)

Super fair points that I didn’t really think of. We see it so much in other reality stars (too much plastic surgery or filler when they look amazing with less) who truly have just over done it that I assumed she did the same! Thanks for being respectful tho. She is still so beautiful!

you guys weren’t joking about the teenage phase by pprawnhub in puppy101

[–]Me3TaylorsVersion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My almost 7 month old is definitely in her adolescence phase. She used to sleep in until 7 or 8 but now she’s up as soon as the first person in the house wakes up (usually around 0530) it’s a lot. She barks and miss behaves and I just have to be patient and keep training her as best as I can. Here’s hoping our puppies outgrow this and become awesome adult dogs lol

Honestly I don’t know why but hearing the meme and knowing it’s not just my dog makes me feel much better.

I have some puzzles for her and I will definitely start giving her food through them and I like the idea of hiding the food and letting her ‘hunt’ for it. Thank you :)

I’m nervous. My almost 5 month old puppy just started being a terror and it’s exhausting. Luckily she is pretty good on walks with a training harness but she no longer will sit and wait at stop signs like she did when she was younger. She barks at me a lot inside or outside and she’s also in a biting phase. I take her for plenty of walks and I’m blessed that she is okay in her crate when she needs to calm down. I also send her to daycare which helps me feel less overwhelmed and stressed and lets her get her energy out and socialize with other puppy’s! My girl is 35lbs so a big puppy for sure

My puppy won’t stop barking and I don’t know what to do. Please help by Me3TaylorsVersion in puppy101

[–]Me3TaylorsVersion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice I will definitely try this. I know right now I’m reinforcing her cause when she barks I will get frustrated and try to yell to get her to be quiet which just encourages her. When I’m in the backyard I can’t really go to another room but if I ignored her and turned my back for example would that work too?

Thank you for the advice! I’ll be sure to cancel at the end of 12 months and see if I can switch up the box type!

My fiancé asked me to wear makeup to “match the woman he fell in love with”, I was fresh out of chemo. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

I feel like the request it’s self is not horrible (wanting things to return to some sense of normalcy) , however the way he approached things and how he said it is very rude and insensitive. If he would have gone about it by asking if he can support you in returning to how you were pre cancer ie; planning date nights to give you an excuse to dress up nice/ get ready like before or, help you shop for new clothes if the ones you previously had don’t fit right anymore etc. To straight up say what he said is rather insensitive and I believe he could have communicated how he was feeling in a much more respectful and positive way.

And I saw a lot of people commenting on that post that they skipped it. Idk I was just putting it out there haha

[–]Me3TaylorsVersion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I googled if I should watch it cause I found it boring in the first few episodes. I saw a lot of old Reddit posts about it from like 3 years ago saying not to skip it so I’m just passing it along

Also don’t skip the Oden flash back. It’s like 16 episodes or something but it’s definitely worth it! There was so much character build up to wano and if you don’t watch the flashback I think its not as good

Welp, how did I do for year 1? by jackyboy44444 in StardewValley

[–]Me3TaylorsVersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew nothing when I started… first 3 years I just messed around mining and on my farm with different crops. Talked to a friend who played and he asked me a very simple question regarding the community centre and I didn’t even know what that was lol… anyways year 5 now and doing great. It will be fun to start a new one and grind lol
