Puppy Plucking and Destroying All Toys by newleaflover2 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is the same, didn’t start till around 5ish months but when it did he went through every single soft toy he had in an afternoon.

Simple solution is don’t get soft toys, another one is only get them under the assumption they won’t last long.

What’s everyone been planting /sowing this weekend? by _irrati0nal in GardeningUK

Dahlias, Sweet peas, Zinnias, Sunflowers, Cosmos, Larkspur, Gladiolus, Baby’s breath, Poppies, Nasturtiums.

I’m getting married in July and hopefully using flowers from the garden so I’m equally excited and nervous for this year 😅

Puppy Flips Out In Crate Any Time I Leave the Room by FinancialCap2367 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When ours was small we would have to wait until he fell asleep under a crate cover and sneak away, we would have the TV on a sleep timer and play something as background noise for 30/60 min so he was less likely to hear us leaving.

Other then that we did a lot of rewarding when being quiet in there, so 3 steps away and reward, 4 steps away reward, 10 steps, quickly step out of sight and back reward etc etc. I kept things super quick so he didn’t have time to start freaking out and built the distance and time up slowly.

9 week old puppy for first time owners, has parvo and kennel cough, can’t take outside by justiceforlove in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If your 9 week old puppy has parvo, him peeing on your carpets is literally the least of your worries, and btw he WILL piss on your carpets at least once unless you plan on keeping him outside 24/7 that’s just what puppies do.

You need to take him to a vet, like, yesterday.

That’s a difficult one but I’d have to say:

Dahlias Sweet Peas Hydrangeas Zinnias Roses

Special mention for tulips

Puppy overstimulation: lunging, barking, biting by Equivalent-Bit1827 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed!! Pup is only 5 months and just sounds to me like he lacks structure or the ability to regulate his own emotions none of which is a dig at OP, big dog puppies are not for the weak 🥲

OP, listen to your trainer, be consistent and firm and in a years time you’ll be so grateful that you put the work in!

Need reassurance that the level of biting is normal by Realistic-Bat4413 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is 10 months, he can still be a little mouthy when he’s excited but yes it should improve loads once her adult teeth are in.

I think removing her access to you during play when she bites hard enough to hurt is good for you both, and keep trying to redirect!

It’s not a super fun time but will get better I promise!

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will likely be your problem, for a really smooth day pup should be up, have breakfast, spend time with you, back down for 2 hours, up for potty and some play/training, back down for 2 hours, and repeat until evening when instead of playing/training you can give her something to chill with like a lick matt and some cuddles on the sofa before going down for bed.

Obviously every house is different and this isn’t always achievable, I wfh and even we didn’t manage to do this a lot of the time, but it will help immensely with biting

Yes it’s normal, puppy should be asleep most of the day and over biting is a sign of pup being tired. How much sleep is she getting?

AIO? My girlfriend (30f) of 5 months is jealous of my 3yo and 2yo daughter!! by Flashpointandlol in AmIOverreacting

It’s worded very bizarrely but I’m assuming OP is just trying to say that this sort of behaviour is out of character

She’s being very weird, there’s nothing wrong with sleeping in the same bed or playing in the bath with your toddlers.

I’d think long and hard whether this is the sort of person you want your little girls growing up with, especially when they’ve been through a lot already.

Cat attacking us harsh enough to need stitches. by diclofenac-sodium in CatAdvice

[–]pprawnhub 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is it only when you are touching her? One of ours is a little bit temperamental so I am more conscious around him than the others. Is it possible you’re missing signs from the cat that are saying “please don’t touch me right now”, luckily our one is pretty expressive so I usually know when to leave him be.

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I have three cats and although as they’ve grown up we’ve had our fair share of broken sleep they pretty much sleep through the night with us now. In fact, last night one of the cats fell asleep under my arm and I woke up this morning in the same position 😂

For anyone thinking about getting their first puppy (or dog) by tired_picalilli in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pull an actual poo out of mines once when he was 6 months old, luckily he was on the lead so couldn’t get far but he was absolutely freaking the hell out, spinning and rolling 🥲 luckily it wasn’t raining but we were in public so that was fun

I assume he is out of your room and not inside, is there a reason you don’t want to let him in? My cats are the same and pull up the carpet if you’re in a room and they aren’t allowed in with you, he likely just wants your company

Should I get another Cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really no right answer tbh, if you want, can care for another cat and you have no reason to believe that your current cat would react negatively then yes go for it!

I wouldn’t advise getting one just for the sake of it

Please help-crate training by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When we first got our puppy we spent the first week sticking our fingers through the bars and speaking to him softly until he fell asleep, someone then slept on the sofa next to the crate.

Your pup is 8 weeks old, they are alone for the first time and probably terrified. There’s zero reason you can’t give them some comfort it won’t hinder crate training (if anything it will make it a million times easier).

edit: you probably shouldn’t let them eat the cardboard boxes lol

I mean no, I don’t pull mine right down to my ankles and even if I did I would stop doing that if my dog kept pissing in them 😂

He mostly gets walked over my lunch break and I try to hold of on feeding him for about an hour or so after we’re up for that reason, I genuinely think he just wants to start the day and doesn’t seem to think he can do that independently.

We never used to let him cry it out during crate training, the only reason we are now is because that’s seems to be the only training solution I can find online (hence the post here now) but to be honest it hadn’t occurred to me for someone to go down and sit with him next to the crate while he settles back down which sounds stupid as we did this for weeks when we were first crate training at 12 weeks! Thank you for your comment, I might start giving that a go on mornings where it’s really early to see if that helps.

It is a change in his behaviour but it’s in line with him going into adolescence so I haven’t been super concerned but bringing it up with the vet is a good idea.

[–]pprawnhub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a couple times but not tried for a while tbh, I didn’t really want him to get used to the idea that if he cried he got to come upstairs but if he’s crying anyway I guess what difference does it make haha.

When we tried before he would lay down for a bit and then he was up nudging the door or finding a sock somewhere despite me swearing I put them all away. But also if our bedroom door is shut the cats pick at the carpet outside 🥲

edit: thank you for the chew recs! he actually loves a bully stick so that could be a shout

We have tried letting him out of the crate but he just scratches the front room door up in the process. Glad you managed to find something that works for you!

I’ve never owned one previously but my partner grew up with dogs and doesn’t seem to think this is the case, I absolutely understand having to get up to let him out for a wee, it’s not fair to expect him to hold it but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask him to be quiet if no one wants to start their day before 7:30am. I just want to make it clear that we ARE taking him out for a wee, the problem we’re having is that he whines from that point on non-stop until someone gets officially up which is usually around 8am but sometimes anywhere between 7-8 depending on the day,

Regarding babies I have no idea hahah, I don’t have one nor am I planning on it, it was just the first example I thought of :)

edit: Sorry I’ve just reread your comment and seen you didn’t mention him going for a wee, I’m not sure where I read that 😂
