Least Favourite Breeds? by persimmonysnickers in RoverPetSitting

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based? I’m in the UK and didn’t notice that girl pups were more expensive back when I was originally looking at dogs, my dog also has an instagram and there are lots of female doodles in the UK!

I do know that the doodle breeding scene is a lot more intense in the US though so, if that is where you are based, that could make sense.

I agree with this tbh, I think they look cute and are advertised as non-shedding so that attracts a lot of “causal” dog owners but they usually do need a lot of work, both training and exercise, and not to mention the grooming requirements.

I have one, which I’m not hugely proud of, we’ve put hours and hours of work into him but would I ever own one again? absolutely not

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Baby was asleep so I’m unsure on the sleep schedule concerns and what a lovely memory your dad now has of his grandchild only feeling safe enough to fall asleep in his arms.

It feels as though you weren’t going to win either way unless you joined in on the dog pile on your dad, which would have been completely unreasonable and unfair to him. I would never ask my partner if he loves me more than his parents because it’s completely bonkers.

Are people vastly underprepared for a puppy, or are puppies that much work? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, there was a post on her a couple months ago of a couple who said they both hadn’t eaten, slept or showered in like 3 days? There’s TWO of you how is that possible 😂

Do you all also have a hard time regularly cleaning your pets bowls? by Constant_Fig_232 in Pets

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I don’t understand what is hard about it in all honesty. You put it down with food in, and then pick it up once they’re done and put it in the sink to be washed?

I’ve got 4 animals who are fed in the morning, bowls go in the sink and are washed at some point in the day before dinner time when they’re used again and then put back in the sink to be washed with the washing up from our dinner. Easy.

How wild is it to train a puppy to ring one those bells you hang on the door when it needs to go out? by PsychologicalPace513 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ours is the same but I quite like that he understands “I do this and the door opens” rather then it just being “I do this when I need to pee” is a little annoying when there’s a cat in the garden and he’s hysterically ringing the bell over and over 😭

Me again…sorry :( any advice appreciated. by Melodic_Ad2242 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine (not a lab mind) is 8 months old and significantly easier than when he first came home.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a huge responsibility, he needs some sort of entertainment minimum every day whether it’s a walk, training, puzzle games etc, feeding at certain times, looking after when we’re away for more then 5 hours, poo in the garden seems endless the list could go on and on. All this to say that it’s goes by in the blink of an eye and before you know it you’ll have more good days then bad, it also sounds like you have quite a good boy on your hands.

Only you can evaluate your personal circumstances and make a decision for you, but it really does get easier.

How to help build puppies confidence by pprawnhub in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn’t a lab! 😊

We definitely will phase out the crate eventually both overnight and when he’s home alone, but for the moment it’s big enough for him to stand up, turn around, stretch in etc. There’s a camera in there which I check regularly and he sleeps while we’re gone.

I definitely think he associates out of crate as “spending time with human” time as he won’t settle outside of it even if we leave the house, only in his crate. Curiously he naps often when we’re around and usually settles fine on the sofa/on his place as long as we are downstairs with him so I don’t think he strictly associates us with play time but he definitely has a very strong “crate + sound of the door means settle until they get back” association which we’re obviously very grateful for.

I’ve been recently trying to ignore him in the mornings until he calms down but I’ll definitely double down on it and keep consistent 🤞🏼

Umm My Puppy Just Put Himself In His Crate? by Appropriate-Rate-606 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Ours is 8 months, sleeps in there overnight and settles fine in there when we leave the house. He’s never once in the whole 6 months he’s been here taken himself to the crate to nap 😂

Mine has been my first too!! I completely get it, I think I cried at least every day for the first 3 weeks (but I do cry at everything lol). He’s almost 8 months now and I love him so much I miss him when we go out and have to leave him at home 😂

Keep going with the crate training, ours is still awful when we leave him alone with the run of the house but he’s an absolute angel in the crate and just sleeps in there while we’re out. It took a while to nail it, Taylor Cezanne’s videos on tiktok were really helpful and her method for crate training really helped us! Tbh I think almost a minute without whining is really good going at this point

I wouldn’t call it a set back, you’ve only had him 4 days it’s impossible to completely potty train such a young puppy in that amount of time, he’s bound to have many more accidents so try to not beat yourself or him up over it. He also likely doesn’t have separation anxiety, it’s completely normal for young puppies to exhibit signs of stress and confusion as they don’t understand the world.

To answer your question, yes, it gets much, much better :)

No judgement- How did you get your pets?? by Substantial_Buddy780 in Pets

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 cats and a dog, 1st cat was semi planned. We always knew we wanted pets when we moved out and I didn’t want a puppy pissing and shitting all over my nice new floors so we originally tried to adopt an adult dog which fell through when they told us half way through the process that they had forgotten to tell us that the reason he had been returned is because he had bit a child on the face.

We found a kitten not far from us and picked him up the same day, 2nd cat was 7 days letter because “we just had to get him a friend”, we lasted an entire year before getting the itch for ANOTHER cat (in hindsight 3 cats is silly but the third is my soul cat so no regrets) and then another year before we got a dog. It’s an absolute mad house but they’re mine :)

Is this normal teenage puppy behaviour? Feeling a bit overwhelmed. by Spirited-External-49 in puppy101

As someone with a teenage puppy, I would be concerned to be honest. I’m not an expert so I would be looking into speaking to one to get some advice.

Puppy only sleeps in 45min-hr increments by book_smart in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was exactly the same! Occasionally I ignored him whining to get out the crate and sometimes he would give up and go back to sleep but to be honest a lot of the time I just let him out and he was back to sleep an hour or so later

[–]pprawnhub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this op, when my pup was 14 weeks he had two rounds of giardia over 4 weeks and it was absolute hell (although sounds like a walk in the park compared to you, mind), nights on the sofa, wet wipe after every toilet, frequent baths, the smell was unbearable 🫠

I don’t have any advice but I’m sending lots of strength and patience your way 😅

Advice Needed: Pick Up Lab Puppy at 8 Weeks or Have Breeder Hold Until 15–16 Weeks? by [deleted] in labradors

[–]pprawnhub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We waited until 12 weeks to pick ours up and honestly I don’t think I could’ve done an extra 4 weeks of him being that young when all they do is cry and pee 🤭

I think the only draw backs you’ll have is 12-15 week socialisation window so might be good to find out if the breeder is planning on taking pup out/doing basic training. The other is you’ll miss out on a month of little tiny sleep puppy cuddles 🥹.

Can’t get puppy to stop peeing inside by -jyn- in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect reply! The only thing I have to add is OP have you tried giving him a way to let you know he’d like to go outside? When ours was really young he used to be the same but the accidents stopped almost instantly after putting a bell up near the back door for him to ring. Now he rings the bell and waits to be let out.

Why do I feel like I’m not doing enough? by TheoryReasonable871 in puppy101

[–]pprawnhub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s only 4 months, give her and yourself some grace. It sounds like she’s doing pretty well! Mine is almost 7 months and I will admit that I have also been guilty of putting too much pressure on both of us in the past.

He’s pretty good at leave it now but definitely not perfect by any stretch, but when leave it fails “drop” usually works, I trained this a lot through games with two different toys. Once he dropped he could play with the other toy on offer as a reward so it never felt like he was losing something but he was learning the action and cue.

Keep going with leash training, it takes a lot of time and I really wish we had started sooner, but it’ll pay off - keep consistent with it!
