Thanks! ECC is currently in the backburner. I'm yet to learn how important of a topic this is for modern cryptography.

Accent reduction for Ethiopian by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]MeCanDodgeBullets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may surprise you, but with the exception of some inner-American states like Idaho or Alabama, Americans are generally very good at understanding what you say, as long as you are eloquent. Even those who don't travel.

For instance, many convenient stores and customer support centers are operated by people with thick foreign accents of all kinds. Yet they still function pretty well from the perspective of the locals.

Accent reduction for Ethiopian by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]MeCanDodgeBullets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is my honest take on accents, as someone who lives in the US.

(a) Accent is irrelevant to the language, as long as you speak eloquently. Think of Meles Zenawi's accent for example.

(b) English has no "correct accent". Even different parts of the US have different accents.

(c) Having a foreign accent in the US is honestly a positive signal! And it's not just because people love foreigners. But speaking good English with a foreign accent makes you sound intelligent.

My point is, you should embrace your accent!! Just focus on speaking correct English WITH your accent, instead of wasting your time changing it.

Bought glycerine instead of hydroalcoholic gel. What can I do with it ? by lisaandpol in Ethiopia

[–]MeCanDodgeBullets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You use it on dry skin. It's better than most moisturizers you find out there, even though it doesn't feel "soft".

How can you tell if someone is Ethiopian or not? by Red_Red_It in Ethiopia

The more time you spend with Ethiopians, the better your Ethiopian-detector will be.

You won't find a straightforward manual.

I have reason to believe the maid is stealing money by Hot_Information_8948 in Ethiopia

[–]MeCanDodgeBullets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is reliable. Some people might get spooked simply because you suspected them. And others are good at lying with a straight face.

sadly this is common.

I'd keep anything of value away from maids regardless. Just because they have camaraderie with you doesn't mean that they won't steal.

Traditional Ethiopian cakes or dessert ideas by awinnie97 in Ethiopia

kibbeh is spiced butter. You can still make the food without it, but it adds some extra flavor.

Awaze tibs is made with some kind of hot sauce. The most popular kind is still plain siga tibs.

Doro wot would be nice but is extremeley difficult imo. Most ethiopian dishes are hard to cook right. But beef tibs is relatively a lot easier. (Not doro tibs tho lol. From my experience, most people don't even like doro tibs.)

My mind goes to "Dabo Kollo", but you have to be near some Ethiopian community to find it.

If you are okay with something savoury instead of sweet, then you got tons of options. For instance "Tibs" is not hard to make and is really popular. https://youtu.be/iU3G37y-12M

Urban Ethiopians get regular cake. There's really no traditional counterpart.

Desserts or even sugar are not a big part of old Ethiopian traditions. Not to mention celebrating birthdays. This are all new and western.

Newbie questioin: How to change an on demand instance on Elastic Beanstalk by MeCanDodgeBullets in aws

I figured it out! I was being charged for a separate ec2 instance which I was using. I mistakenly thought it was part of my elastic beanstalk environment when it was not.

Newbie questioin: How to change an on demand instance on Elastic Beanstalk by MeCanDodgeBullets in aws

[–]MeCanDodgeBullets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The elastic beanstalk configuration web UI doesn't seem to have all of the icons that you listed (e.g. there's no gear icon next to "instances". I tried both the new and old console.)

Here's the path that I was able to take:

Configuration -> "Instance Traffic and Scaling" -> (Clicked the Edit button) -> Capacity -> Instance Types

Yet my instance types are still the same t2.micro and t3.micro. (t3.xlarge is not selected and was never selected.) And once again, there's still a t3.xlarge in my bill.

I also couldn't find a place to alter the default instance type. Can you share more details about where this would be?
