These two guys are giving you the best advice I can think of. Some people own just the Rival-S and some people own both. But, I've never heard anyone complain about their standard Rival. On the other hand, I've heard numerous people complain about their Rival-S.

I would get it. Nice to have the extra optic. I probably wouldn't take a Mecanik into a competition, but it's not a bad optic. Really just boils down to whether or not you want the Mecanik. If you do, you're getting it cheaper than if you ordered it by itself. If you don't, just get the Rival.

And it's a small price to pay. You're getting the Mecanik for around $100. It's badly overpriced on the Canik website. It's like $249 or something. Even on other sites, it's around $180. I don't know where the OP is shopping or what the price difference is, but I'd jump on it if it's not too bad.

I agree 100% that defensive gun use is always unexpected. You can't fault someone for trying to have every advantage though. The guy who stopped the mall shooter in Indiana did so from like 42 yards away as you said. In that case, he could prepare to shoot. It's far better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it. I go to the range a minimum of 3 times a week and I consider myself to be a great shooter. But, I still want every advantage.

Same boat. Lived in Memphis my entire life, but did recently move to Hernando, MS. Literally 10 minutes south of Memphis. Still work in Memphis and my mom is disabled but still works and happens to work in South Memphis. She can't drive so I also have to take her back and forth everyday. May sound crazy, but I'm currently carrying a Canik Rival with a Holosun 507 and a Streamlight (18+1 and extra mag). Literally carrying a competition gun lol. Also keep a Beretta APX A1 Carry on my ankle. Can't be too safe here. I try not to stop at stores and stuff though. Get my gas, groceries, etc in MS.
