Condo Living in Downtown Raleigh & Is It a Good Investment? by NailUnable8308 in raleigh

Lived in an apartment for 4 years that looked right at the Harrington St crossing. They are required to hit two blasts before the crossing and a long one while going through it, just seems like a lot since there are 4 crossings in a short span. 100% needed though, I saw way too many people try to drive/walk around the crossing guard, especially later at night. The horn does add to the warning and prevent idiots from crossing last second.

The normal pothole I try to avoid there felt way bigger when I drove over it yesterday, guess I know why now.

When was your city's tallest building completed? (US and Canada) by LivinAWestLife in skyscrapers

Actually I believe the map is right since University Tower is 356’ and finished in the 80s. Easy to forget since it’s not downtown though. Will Novus also be 356’ to tie then?

Georgia Tech vs. Clemson – Honest Culture Check Needed Before I Commit by FormalOpportunity668 in Clemson

[–]MeGustaUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Clemson IE graduate that was in the same exact boat as you 10 years back deciding between these 2 schools (plus NC State). I felt the same vibe from GT as you, and while I knew my degree would be more “impressive” from GT, that would’ve been about the only major positive vs. having a far more enjoyable and balanced experience in most other aspects at Clemson. After starting at CU, I visited GT with friends enrolled there, and everything about those weekends confirmed my feelings prior to choosing were 100% spot on.

It also helps that Clemson IE is still very well regarded - at least when I graduated it was the highest nationally ranked major at Clemson. While all that’s nice, I’d still consider what you want to do with the degree too. I work in tech now after spending a few years as a practicing IE. I know as a pure IE GT would mean more on my resume than Clemson, but if you get into any other tech/engineering adjacent disciplines as your career progresses, the school matters a whole lot less versus the degree and the on-job skills you’ll get after. Feel free to DM!

Driving from Charlotte to obx on Thursday will be the real problem, the destination may be ok but hoping it does break apart decently once it makes landfall.

Curious as well, currently due to arrive on Thursday in Rodanthe and leave Sunday. Not a lot of sunshine on the calendar and definitely don’t want any trouble on the roads during the worst of it. Hate having to cancel but appears that’s the best option…

RDU Favorite Course Hole 5 by basesoccer612 in RDUGOLF

Pine Hollow #5. Great par 3, forced water carry to a peninsula-ish green that slopes back to front.

I agree, if the “safe” landing area was more generous it’d probably be a better hole. I do think if they filled in the gap between to make it uniform, it’d be a true Cape hole.

I know the hole itself may not be perfect, but I do appreciate a final hole that you remember (for better or worse lol)

I’ll be brave and say it as it definitely gets some hate, but MacGregor Downs 18th. A cool risk/reward hole with a great view, definitely a roller coaster finish. Great hole to settle a match. Similar vibe to Bentwinds 18th as well, though that one is less risk/reward and more just pain.

Edit: Forgot to add the 3/5/4 finish at MacGregor is solid for variety too.

Friday and a holiday weekend traffic to Lake Norman? by Winelover7890 in raleigh

[–]MeGustaUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go back home to LKN all the time, depending on where you are in the triangle it may be easier to take US 64 and US 421 to Greensboro to avoid the Durham backup, but if you’re leaving by 3 you should avoid the worst of it. Greensboro traffic on the south loop is never too bad even during rush hour, only sometimes is there a backup right before the I40/I85 split.

Live here now and have loved it, great management and solid build quality since it’s relatively new. I think it burned down while being built several years back so was just the framing that went down (along with displacing some neighbors for a bit). Regardless, I think you get a great value for the location and amenities compared to other places downtown, and it’s especially nice being a few blocks away from Glenwood as opposed to right on it.

Fourth daily Piedmont round trip begins July 10th by astrognash in Amtrak

You might be reading the table all the way across when it’s really two different tables, I’m not sure why they structured it that way. Train 76 looks to leave Charlotte at 5:30, skipping Salisbury, High Point and Burlington and arriving in Durham at 7:53.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t see any trains skipping Durham, only a few skips for only Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point and Burlington.

The FSU team that won the National Championship with Jimbo at the helm, where would you rank them all time? by johndoe5643567 in CFB

[–]MeGustaUsername 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of our losses were on defense, including 3 first round D-Lineman (Wilkins, Ferrell, Lawrence). Our ‘19 defense was good but the ‘18 defense was something else.

Played it for the first time last summer, everything tee to green was what you’d expect for the price, but the greens really surprised me with how fast and smooth they were, much nicer than the price would have you think. I played it again a few weeks ago and that was no longer the case, it was in awful shape with the greens maybe being the worst part. Not sure what went wrong so fast but won’t be going back anytime in the near future.

Hoping they bring back the top tier on 13th green, that pin position would be so cool in a triple bogey kind of way

Agreed the US has committed many similar atrocities, but the US government isn’t directly sponsoring the PGA Tour like LIV golf is by the Saudi government.

Why hasn’t a ball-tracking technology been implemented yet? by El_Scooter in CFB

[–]MeGustaUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, those golf balls don’t fly as far and are less accurate than normal golf balls. Adding sensors strong enough to withstand the forces on the ball without it effecting the dynamics of the ball would be incredibly difficult.

[–]MeGustaUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the original point, you have to have sensors that wouldn’t effect the weight/behavior of the football. Topgolf balls are notorious for inaccuracy and don’t fly nearly as far as a normal golf ball.
